Crays are a bad idea in a plant tank. especially with small fish too.
Trust me i know from experience on this one.

I like the Killifish and the Blue Rams, very colorful. How hard is it to take care of the rams?

If you're also interested in the killifish, golden wonders are the most common species of killifish and while most LFS don't carry them all the time, it shouldn't be hard for them to get a hold a few.

Rams need a high temperature between 80-86F. If you opt for rams, find fish suitable for these temps, such as cardinals. If not, plant it and go with a school of cardinals and rummy nose tetras.

Do the college staff physicly check the size of the tanks? Because if they dont you easily buy a wider tank, that still has the same height and depth of a 10G and just hide the depth from the naked eye with furniture, or a lamp, bed etc. This will let you have more gallonage thus a more stable tank in terms of chemistry composition.

Just get a pair of big crays...electric blues.....reds....or even red tips and then raise them for sale....Much more intresting to watch than small fish and they can eat most of your left overs.

well, how about pair of betta like i did..uummmm..i also have 2CL,6CL,1 Silver at college..well,:D
