color change in flowerhorn

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thats something weird. i have not seen such drastic change in my two year experience in FH keeping. i also have not seen a post like that in our forum here in the philippines. i initially suspected the fish molted but the molting process does not go this fast.

i dont know but i guess, some hormonal factors may have caused such changes.

i like its colors though.

He is about 8 inches and is definately not stressed. I have raised him from a 2 incher. I feed him spectrum in the morning and A-life at night with the occasional super worm, shrimp pellet, etc. The pair are in a 75 with a few fancy plecos. I do a 50% change weekly. I consider myself quite lucky to have him. Thanks for the questions and comments.

your flowerhorn is in fading process. Ive been breeding a lot of golden flowerhorns for many years now and all golden flowerhorns starts as black or looks like a regular red dragon and fade later on. if the father and mother are pure golden flowerhorn or so called jing kang the babies will fade faster and by the time it reaches 2 inches most should be golden already. the way your fish looks like is that one of the parents is a golden and the other is red dragon flowerhorn that is why the fading process takes a bit longer. now a days cross breeds like this are being called as faded zz. nice fish. good luck.

dude nice flowerhorn

In the last three weeks, my male flowerhorn has completely changed his coloration and markings. I have included three pics to see the changes over time. The last pick was taken this morning. I have also included a pic of his girl. They have bred three times over the last 7 weks. Enjoy!

Exactly correct. It's the red devil genetics. The gold/red color is incompletely dominant. Your fish only has one dose of red. If it had two doses, it would have changed much earlier. Breeding this male to a 'normal' female will produce 50% eventual golds and 50% 'normals'.

They breed just about every two weeks. Unfortunately I have not raised any of the babies. The last batch left me with five babies that made it to nearly a centimeter. I left them with the parents. At some point over last weekend, they ate the five babies. Tonight I came home to find that she has laid eggs yet again. I will post new pics tomorrow, as the male has continued to fade/peel since my last post.

Your confusing @_@ I dont think anything that you said makes any sense what does doses of red mean and have to do with a Gold Base FH.
