I feed him spectrum in the morning and A-life at night with the occasional super worm, shrimp pellet, etc. The pair are in a 75 with a few fancy plecos. I do a 50% change weekly. I consider myself quite lucky to have him. Thanks for the questions and comments.

The last pick was taken this morning. I have also included a pic of his girl. They have bred three times over the last 7 weks. Enjoy!
Exactly correct. It's the red devil genetics. The gold/red color is incompletely dominant. Your fish only has one dose of red. If it had two doses, it would have changed much earlier. Breeding this male to a 'normal' female will produce 50% eventual golds and 50% 'normals'.babychris;1554588; said:your flowerhorn is in fading process. Ive been breeding a lot of golden flowerhorns for many years now and all golden flowerhorns starts as black or looks like a regular red dragon and fade later on. if the father and mother are pure golden flowerhorn or so called jing kang the babies will fade faster and by the time it reaches 2 inches most should be golden already. the way your fish looks like is that one of the parents is a golden and the other is red dragon flowerhorn that is why the fading process takes a bit longer. now a days cross breeds like this are being called as faded zz. nice fish. good luck.
