"COMMON FISH" you've never kept but want to???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A bunch of those 'Glow fish' that they've been selling since Christmas at stores all over. I would only buy the yellow and green ones. Then you get the black light for the tank. You get the late 70's affect in the fish tank. Haven't done this, 'cause I know I would get bored with it after a few days.

a school of wc longnose gar, i would obviously need a big tank to house them, the last time i saw a wild longnose gar, it was seriously at least 30" long and 4" thick!

I think that is exactly why some of us have not gotten bichirs.. Trying to avoid the addiction ;) same reason I have never gone SW or planted..

Yup, kind of the same thing for me. And my planted 33 is by far the most expensive and highest maintenance tank in my house. I learn something new everyday with plants, SO much to learn.
I've seen and cared for plenty of bichirs at my old job, but just haven't had one at home yet. I'm also really kind of in to the biotope-ish thing (like Justin is as well) and TRY to keep species from the same general part of the world together (although I can't get rid of my loaches for some reason with my SA fish ;)).
I'm also really into axolotl lately, and plan on getting one (I know, not a fish, but hey it's aquatic!). I just haven't done it. It would go in my 20 gallon long with the 3D background, probably the only axolotl tank around with one! :D

Cichlids. Why not?- they sound like they are very hard to keep healthy. Like there's a magic trick to being able to raise them. That, and I don't know if I could watch fish that bully eachother. Wouldn't be relaxing to watch the tank, if they were after each other constantly.

Really depends on the species, some are tough as nails, some are extremely delicate! There are plenty you could keep, and would be compatible with your current stock (obviously depending on what that is would dictate what Cichlid would be best).

I have always kinda wanted to keep like a fire eel or a tire track eel. They are kinda cool!

*VERY cool. ;)

Wish I could get a fire eel past 2 feet... Had horrible luck with them myself. :irked:

I've seen a full grown adult in similar setups, but...
it would HAVE to be an adult
and would need some hiding places
and you'd need to watch for aggression towards it
AND make sure it got food (big challenge with your stock, hand feeding is easiest if they're tame enough).

RTC - Just don't have room for one and I know it.. at least atm =D

as for the rest the "bread and butters" not much i can honestly think of tbh that I haven't had over the years if only for a few weeks. ( I learned alot of things the hard way back in "the day")

Artty - idk if I would trust the PBass w/ a spiney eel. unless it was a 30" adult or so. imo I'de try a tire track before a fire, not as colorful but hold their ground well.
