If you had a 20 long tank and put 20 bucktooth tetras in with 20 congo tetras, which species would be left? just wondering because congos look fierce when you look at them up close with visible teeth and slight aggression, while exodons act the part but look peaceful in pictures.

I was in the city and in the middle of bumland there is a small fishstore with some really nice fish.

A worker there brought in a new batch of exos (about 8 of them only) and they all seemed to have fully scaled eachother already, though they were fine. so the man floats the bag of em in with the diamond tetras and i walk around to look at the rest of the fish, come back, and i see the exodons loosed from the bag rounding up the 30+ diamond tetras in there with scaled flying everywhere... :(

so thats what i did today... told the man what was going on and he said "he knows" so i let him handle his business and asked if they could do an order for Charax and they said they'll try (no) and went on my way back home.

Exodon Vs Congo? nothing?

i would say exos cause the congos are not fast and they dont have big mouths

but if the situations was changed and it was 20 exos vs 20 mexican tetras
the exos would be smooked the mexicans get up to 6-7inchs and got serious teeth

i dont realy like my new congos i bought 5 2days ago and only 2 are left due to cannibalism ill

here are some pics i found

actually mexican tetras aren't half as bitey as exodons so im not so sure about that. i posted that congo picture up in the other thread lol.

and idno how socially "paradoxed" mexicanus are compared to Exodons. the exos are much more keen to cooperation in taking down other fish. kinda like putting one rhom into an exo tank and watching it get nitpicked to shreds and cornered before getting its eyes pecked out and winding up on the bottom of the tank the next day.

oh right, you need alot more congos than 5. you need around 10+ just like any aggressive shoaler. exodons/pygocentrus all woulda done the same thing.

thats weird i had congos for quite a while and never had any problems with cannibalism...no aggression at all.

Congos are no match for exodons, period. A congo's tooth structure means that it actually has to grasp it's prey to bite it. Exodons have teeth pointing outwards like a rasp, they can simply ram into another fish and send scales flying. Also, an exodon's mouth is far larger than a congo tetra's.

Go to that link to see the dental structure of an exodon. On some specimens, they are visible while alive.

Astyanax are no match for exos either, I've kept them. They have decent sized teeth (like all tetras do if you pull their lips back), but the mouth is small.
