The same as they were, sell some and grow the the rest out. I'm only selling twelve, so two extra the seller sent+three+the one male I already had (so 6 altogether), should equal a nice little breeding group. Oh and p.s. I paid $135 for the sb texas from jthefishguy on AB, thats $9 per fish, I'm asking a little less than what I paid. They just aren't nice (pearly) enough for me to feel right asking the same price I paid.

My TUIC order arrived today, no doa and everyone (5 deppi fry, 1 female Escondido) settled in (feeding, exploring etc) within a few hours. The (OMG gorgeous!) Escondido female displayed pre-spawning behaviour through the divider within minutes of me releasing her from the bag. So thats two lines of sb texas as of now, fingers crossed, I should soon have a third.

Three different lines/types of sb Texas hybrid to play with.

The plan (bluecan), is to work with these three lines (along with escondido) until I produce an sb Texas with way more herichthys blood than most of the sb Texas I see for sale. I just think that the trend towards breeding rt and srt is causing us to lose something in pearl size/color (not to mention fertility!) in these hybrids. At one point yesterday I had my larger sb texas male on the other side of the divider from the new female. She made what I used to think was a stunning sb Texas look positively pale and drab, his pearls looked soooo small, dim, and undefined compared to hers.

I'm sure that a breeder of rt or srt would tell me that with careful selective breeding the pearls will be just as nice. But those same breeders are almost always going for platinum pearls, not blue/green pearls. And damn few I've ever seen have pearls that compare to the Texas hybrids created in the first steps of an rt/srt breeding program. In a sense (because I am using hybrids with fh/parrot blood) I am trying to create something very similar to those initial rt/srt cross's, the difference being that I'm using pure Texas blood instead of midas. Should hopefully look something like the "super texas" pics I've seen in the past.

Unless you pay big bucks to import them, and even then damn few are sb.

sounds like a good plan. As of now I have the one i bred in with 3 juveniles and this morning I did see what i think to be pairing behaviour but im not sure , i THINK he is a male and im pretty sure all three of these regular texas juvies are male too UGH but we shall see, they are mostly for testing and finding out exactly what he is. His mother who has really big pearls is currently divided from my growing fader male which was a bonus fish who is turning out extremely nice and faded, i think he is too young to breed though. I want to get an escondido as well if i did pursue the texas route, although i have seen the cyno texas cross with the "H" texas and they can be amazing too, the cyo gives the pearls some nice uniform acreage (term in bengal cat breeding lol), and the H. gives the size, just something to think about. I have a few months for all my grow outs and then we shall see, ide love to try my awesome syn on my female SB tex too his colors are so intense, but he is still too young. good luck!

I finally got my eggs but am not sure if they are fertilized.

You'll know in a day or so, either you'll have white goopy eggs or wrigglers.

...they are mostly for testing and finding out exactly what he is.

This is a wonderful sexing method for the venting impaired, I use it all the time, lol!
