Consideration's when choosing short body fish.

good luck, female texas' can breed very small I had two breed (normal bodied texas') at 1.5-2 inches and they tend to be good parents off the bat too, the male in that case was 3 inches, they were the dithers for my SB Pair and then they had babies themselves

Finally got better video of the sb texas, I can't ever seem to get good still pics of them, they simply don't hold still long enough. As you can see there are more than a few faders in this group. I love that they look so much like killin's, imagine pairing one up to a nice Fh, or for that matter a pure Escondido.

Mirror-backed tank?!

I sort of made it into one...I just happened to have a mirror that fit the back of that tank exactly (what are the odds?)...and taped it in place with strong (clear) packing tape.

Titus and the as yet unamed Escondido female are sharing tank space without a divider but they are not exactly setting the world on fire with their romance. I may let her grow a bit more and try again in maybe a month or two.

So I separated Titus and the female Escondido...last friday I decided to put my male sb texas with her just to see what would happen. The reaction was instant and unmistakeable. It was obvious that love was in the air...so to speak, lol!

So imagine how I felt this morning when I noticed my "Male" sb texas had a breeding tube as thick as my arm. Definite female. My heart began to sink...but almost in that same instant I realized that I wasn't alone...apparently Jeff Rapps made a mistake too...the Escondido "female" he sent me is a male.

When I got home from work today I noticed them guarding several hundred eggs.

Sweet serendipity...:headbang2

These are the best pics I have of her....

p.s. if you notice in the pic of the male he still has a dark smudge in his dorsal (gone now), and both dorsal and anal fin appear to be rounded (starting to look long/pointed), at this size (4.5-5 inch) those traits should be fairly definitive, but some fish can and will fool you. That pic was taken right after I recieved my order from tuic, I'm absolutely certain Jeff did his very best to choose a female for me.
