Thinking of trying a Kitumba... I have a 8" Congo VATF and 5 5" Orinos with some potted Plants... The VATF doesnt touch anyone just eats his pellets away and no aggression from the Orinos. With that being said, does it sound like a 4" Kitumba would work (I do have a back up tank incase it dont:D)?

Do Fronts mess with Plants? Dont know if I want any if they do

Having only one front of any species is not recommended since they are quiet and skiddish ... and stress would be a factor leaving the fish open to disease and weakness..... not to say that i don't see some thriving loners in a mixed tank. I have seen single fronts look rather well alone and appear to thrive.. so obviously it works for some ... although i have no idea of long term expectations.. but it is highly recommended to keep fronts in colonys and preferrably alone ...that said... i do think they would mess with plants... they love veggie matter as well as protein... and since they scoot around middle to bottom of the tank...what they did not nibble would at the very least end up uprooted...
 
Great thread. Reading all the way through it seems that fronts by themselves is the most recommended setup. I have a 7x2x2 210 with 8 burundi(1 male,7 females) and they want to hide 90% of the time. Is there any way to bring them out more? I know in ca/sa tanks you can add dithers, can you do the same with fronts? Thanks.

thank you.....dithers do not help much in my opinion with fronts.. plants {fake} and rearranging the caves/rocks so you see them is a good idea.. also lighting.. i found fronts hide when light is on and come out more when it is just natural... so if you can get more natural light in the room instead of putting the overhead tank light on may help... also the tank should be in a less traffic area ... where u can see the fronts from a small distance... instead of buzzing by the tank... and also the main thing is time... as time goes on i find they become more relaxed as they mature..

It is in our Rec room. Not too much natural light but would leaving the tank lights off and using ambient light from the room help?

i would definitly try this type lighting out for awhile... you won't see drastic change right away... but should in time..
 
just a thought about tank mates

I have my front colony about to move to a 10ft 300g what I put in for tank mates with mine thus far are 3 gold sev, 1 turquoise sev and 2 adonis plecs.

probably in a 92 gal. corner tank or 155 Bowfront
whichever one I decide to buy!

I would let all the other fish mature for a few months
before adding the Fronts.

3 Neolamprologus leleupi
1 Cyrtocara moorii

Cyprichromis leptosoma school of 10 or more
or Will These Become Lunch when Fronts get bigger?
