I just finished setting up my front tank. I forgot how black these fish can be. I have 1 large male burundi (+10") and i hoping to pick up 5 females and 1 more male today. I was wondering if anyone has been able to keep plants in their tank. I would like to break up the darkness of the tank. Its a 240 with moon sand and lace rock, so its a little black in there.

For 5 females keep just one male, the largest one. Two males at that size would end up fighting too much in the 240. I have 6 Kitumba males 12"+, but there's a harem of 16 females not far behind in size in a "bigger than your usual tank".

i have yet to see the fish so im just going on what the guy is telling me. 5 sounds like a good number. I want to have a nice colony of fronts and maybe something smaller and "brighter" colored like lupia? (yellow and longer) to accent the tank.

Nah, keep just the fronts on themselves. The only tankmate I use for now is a pair of Boulengerochromis Microlepis, but once they get close to 30" and spawn I'll most likely have to give them their own tank to avoid having the Frontosas too badly injured.

well i got the fish the other day. I now have 5 females and 1 male. the male has been bullying one of the females, so im waiting to see how this works out. other than that they are doing fine. :headbang2

If I am buying from a breeder and I want to someday try to breed my fronts without them ending up all funny (because of interbreeding/close genes) ...
Then I want some fronts that aren't close in the same gene pool.
How do I ask for that?
In what way would I phrase that without a big long explanation and me sounding stupid?
