Converting a 20ft cistern into an underground eel pond.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Fish of many names lol… eel pout, burbot, poor mans lobster… lota lota… one thats always been on my list and rarely kept. Wonder how cold u really need to keep them long term. There breeding them in vats over seas now. Seen them available a few times over the yrs now ??. Funny/ironic how other countries produce our native fish.
They’re actually native all the way down the Ohio river to me in Cincinnati but I think there’s no chance I’ll catch one. I do go seining often but I don’t actually fish. I bet the temp would be perfect in here.

A cistern under your garage? Any worries about chemical contamination or vehicle leaks?

There’s burbot in the Ohio river? Got a new target fish for the season lol

Cool project but is this really fun? I mean can you see anything in that dark black pit underwater?

Would be nice to swim do with underwater lights.

Fun is subjective is it not? What may be fun for someone else may not be fun to you.

A lot of people would look at the majority of us on this forum as odd. Wondering how or why we could enjoy keeping fish. I personally would love to have something like this under my basement. I’d likely add halides to the ceiling and light it up with a dock going out over the water and turn it into a bass pond or something but I could see sneaking down there with a flashlight to check out a bunch of eels being just as cool.

im personally jealous. Have fun with this project. Super cool

I agree that opinions vary, but I tend to go with this ^ one. Clinging to a metal ladder after slithering through a narrow manhole, and needing a headlamp to maybe see any fish? Hard pass! The whole thing has a bit of a "Silence of the Lambs" kind of vibe to it.

"It takes the Massivore and drops it into the water..."
