Converting from fresh to reef tank!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
+1. You need to make sure the water is completely cycled before adding anything. And you cannot add more rock with living things in the tank unless it is live rock with NO die off on it. The die off on the rock causes a cycle which will crash your tank. And yes dry rock causes cycles as well.

I would have waited to be sure that tank is cycled for a while, before adding any fish.

i understand but ya know its kinda boring looking at an empty tank for so long just kinda wanted to put something in there to check out the water and give me something to look at for the time being nitrite and nitrates are both at 0....used all the old fresh water that was in the tank along with the sand.. added live sand live rock and some base rock....also took someones advice and pulled some sand from an established tank... i think all will be fine but we shall see....

also my yellowhead is moving sand around a bit digging here and there and ive noticed a few bare spots under rocks so i was wondering is it too late to add more sand to the tank maybe another 20-40 pounds....need input on whether this is a good idea or not
