i noticed that everyone has black convicts...my first pair that had fry were also black. do pink convicts not breed as easily?

i don't think it really matters, but i could be wrong...''tomatoes..tomatos.''

having the proper conditions ( which isnt hard to achieve IMO/IME ) will determine how likely they are to breed.

i was a first time convict owner and i did easily in 2 weeks.

i think that goes to show how simple it is to get some fry out of these love little machines!

I've been hearing alot of bumps in the night. Fish hitting the lid and whatnot. During the day both females are often tucked away in the little nooks and crannies while the male struts around the tank like he owns the place. is he to aggressive or is this normal behavior? I have noticed the female's orange bellys have brightened up some.

worst comes to worst get rid of the male and get a small one.

ur male is like massive compared to ur little females. he may be to much '' man '' for them:naughty:

black or pink convicts there is no difference

they will breed with 2black or 1b 1pink or 2 pink

they dont have any hang ups as long as they can get there fish end away with the females :p

Ransom, how big is that setup u have them in? I have a similar setup 55gl with 3 pots. Sry Deaths sting didn't mean to de-rail.

ita a 4ft 12w 18h its a bit too small for me but its what i got at the time, on the other side of the sofa is a 2.5 x 18x18 tank with 7 small texas in it, and ontop a 1.5ft with 10 convict fry from the 1st batch

the con tank has 1heater high 70.s and 1 fluval3 angled so it ripples the water

They care for the fry though, dont they? I've heard that they will breed faster if u do remove them after they r free swiming. Is that what u have found?

convicts are so fun to watch. especially when the fry are new they are SO protective! i put my face close to the galss and they just stare but when i move my mouth like a fish does they would flare up and charge at me lol

in my fish keeping times ive had many paired up convicts and they have always cared for the fry for about 2 -3days then they eat one then they all get eat, this is the 1st time and 1st spawn in my convict only tank so im pretty chuffed that they are such keep parents right now, there is plenty of space for them to breed again if they so wish,

they don't always. the first 2 spawns i ever had were completely successful and it was in a 15 gallon!

i just sold some of my convicts 2 days ago. it was way to crowded in there! no body died and everyone ate at feeding time! hundred little mouths at the water line all at once was pretty cool to watch!

i think i made the right choice though..to sell some:)
