Convict x jack dempsey breeding ???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't know man... That second picture only likes like a convict because of the short stocky body. But the red the and spots makes me think red Texas , which is a hybrid itself.

The first picture in the first group is a spinossum (trying to remember the scientific name off the top of my head). Second is a very nice red Texas. The third picture in the second group is a stressed out blackbelt and the last I believe to be a jack Dempsey Texas hybrid.

The "red texas" looks SUPER convictish! Look at its mouth! The way its top fin streams past its tail. Look at its eye.. It has that "classic" convict expression and look... Could it be a RED TEXAS X CONVICT HYBRID!?!

Does anyone have experience with cross breeding convicts? If not i will be building another 3 layer (9 tank) tank stand. Then make some threads on each one as i go along. I think it would be interesting to see what comes out of it.

I have done female convict x male firemouth hybrid. It was one of the easier hybrids to make! They stay around the same size so unlike a dempsey it cant get to big and kill the convict... Unfortuneatly the fry all got eaten and my firemouth died... Still have my convict...

Short term they stay the same size but I've seen a male firemouth that was at least 6 inches and thick. It was estimated to be 6-7 years old though
