Convicts killing an Oscar?

Someone came into my store today and told me that their Convicts ganged up on and killed their Oscar. She said her Oscar was 2-2 1/2 inches long and that her Convicts were less than an inch. She says her Oscar was perfectly healthy and that she only had two Convicts--one male and one female. I'm skeptical. What do YOU think?

I have read about Convicts killing Oscars, especially when they are breeding. I read that they once ripped an 8" oscar's stomach to shreds.

So you don't think the Oscar was sick or stressed to begin with?

I had a Jewel that killed 2 oscars. He was a Red Devil trapped in a Jewels body though. He was F-ing mean.

My Convict pair killed a Green Terror twice their size.

I doubt a pair of convicts could kil an 8'' oscar but a small juvi oscar I can see. Any CA or SA cichlid pair will become more agressive during their breeding rituals, and convivts are no exception to this rule. Convicts for their size are pretty fiesty cichs and not to be underestimated, but the thought of them killing an 8'' oscar is hard to believe.

You would be surprised what a Convict can do...
aren't Jewels extremly aggressive African?

jewels are crazy, any hemichromis is pretty damn agressive.


i wouuld never underestimate a convict but it really would have to have some real size to kill any oscar at 8''.

With that said oscars are underestimated to in their agression, if anyone has witnessed a breeding pair of oscars they know what I am talking about
