LMAO... that was good... :headbang2

I've kept convicts on many occassions and they can be vicious! I agree with many of the posters already that a con could do that to a juvi O. And I've had convicts that were very small, in the 1" range you mention, go into breeding mode and then... Watch out! I've even had breeding convicts attack me when cleaning the tank! So I could see it happening.

had this happen to one of my friends while he was cleaning his tank... funniest damn thing i saw... bite him on the tip of his finger...

1 sentence, jewel (african) and oscars (American) just dont speak the same body language (Fish comunicate through colours), so 2 hear about the 2 fighting (Majik Terror) is no surprise. to anser the original question about the convicts and oscars fighting my anser would be more of a question.... how Small is the tank???

I have read about Convicts killing Oscars, especially when they are breeding. I read that they once ripped an 8" oscar's stomach to shreds.

Thats hard to believe convicts ripped an 8" oscar belly. I have a mean 4" male convicts and my (2) 7" oscars always chases the convicts. Even my breeding convicts constantly have there eggs eaten by other fishes like several mbunas fishes, pike, motag, fh.
However my previous (9) 7" red belly piranhas were chase my a single convict non-stop. Convicts are mean during breeding but not that mean.

I have jewels and they are not aggressive at all, even my baby 2" dovii fight w/ a 2.25" jewel and beat it. We are talking a baby fish that not developed its personallity yet, and a mature jewel. and my other jewels in an african tank acts like a common goldfish just runs around and gets chase all over by the mbuna.
IMO, one of the meanest smaller fishes are the african mbuna, I have one(blue w/ vertical stripes) at 3" beat out of its territory a breeding pair of 3"& 3 1/2" convicts. Even the albinos scriroccos? and electric blues are very mean.

my 2c
