Convicts liplocking???

I have a pair of convicts in my 125 gallon tank. I've had them for several months and not one batch of fry...

Today I get home and they are liplocking!!! The male is always chasing around the female, but I've never seen them do this before. Are they fighting or is this some sort of mating ritual? I know my Texas male got pretty mean with the female before they mated.

Sounds like they are just fighting. Are you sure they are male and female?

Looks like they are fighting, mine do that once every couple of months or so. For this reason I do not suggest keeping them in 10-20 gallon tanks, it might work but once they start fighting they will not have a place to hide. Separate them for a week or so...

Hard to tell from the pictures, the sex of the fish. I don't really know how to tell sexes of convicts unless you were to vent the fish. I bought two and I ended up with a pair and they spawned 4 days later, that was the only way I know I have a pair.

Also as long as they aren't hurting each other to bad there should be no problem, most likely they are just haveing a territorial dispute, and is should just blow over once one of the other wins.

My male has a red belly and it is brighter than the females belly. He also has long fins, that is why I find it hard to distinguish sex by features that the fish have.
