when i got my first 55gal the LFS told me i could keep 3 oscars in it with no problem so i did and i soon lerned that LFSs only care about the sell not the fish. DONT TRUST MOST LFSs. do reserch beforeyou buy anyfish.
Well, I did a oscar drop off at the pet store, I told him he could take them and make money off of them or I could go dump them in lake hamilton! LOL I knew he would take them then. (I really wouldnt have dumped them in the lake is it is illegal) So now the chocolate is in a 60 gallon tank all by himself, hes a rather timid thing, was even scared of the pleco... I plan to add the pleco back to the tank in another few days. Any other advice would would be greatly appreciated. Ive been reading that peacock cichlids are pretty peaceful, would adding a male peacock be terrible?
Also I have read that chocolates like floating plants...any suggestions as to what type I should look into? I dont want something thats going to take over the whole tank.
Add a bunch of dithers in the tank. You can probably add a small catfish too. But since you got the chocolate cichlid, thats about teh only cichlid you can have for that tank. It all realy matters if you want something long term or not. Might as well save your money and jsut make a really good tank and enjoy it. Liek I say, add some dithers, maybe a small catfish species, and the chocolate cichlid will be the centerpiece fish.
Nice one Mike, you did the right thing. How about some Lemon Tetras or some Congo Tetras? Maybe 4 or 5 of one type. I think that would probably then be about your limit.
LOL I just put two diamond tetras in the tank from my daughters 10 gallon, I come back from the grocery store and now there is only one. I dont think tetras are gonna be ok. Was thinking about clown or yoyo loaches and maybe a few pictus cats. Whatcha think?
I think you need to learn how to do research, that is what I think.
Clown loaches are schooling fish that easily reaches 15" long. Diamond tetras are also a schooling fish, why would your torture a pair of them by keeping them out of a school?
i was wrong, it didnt get eaten. So I added the other two. A school of 4 should be fine. Yes, Im aware that they are schooling fish, but I wanted to make sure the choc. wouldnt eat them before I put all my daughters diamond tetras in there, Ive owned yoyo loaches, but never clown loaches....I know they like to be in groups too. THe longest yoyo Ive ever seen was about 3.5" long. I am doing research Trial and error, you cant always trust wikipedia etc
