Cool Mystery Fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Barrett’s Asian arowanas also grow quite big but that doesn’t seem to be the stumbling block at this point. I think his stall is feeding massive amounts of live food. Lol

Precisely, I'm admittedly kind of a softie about such things nowadays, I killed enough fish growing up commercial fishing for salmon & halibut.

Yeah that is interesting, maybe breeding efforts are indeed getting more successful. But that fish must have been sold really quick lol -- Galantspeedz you didn't....? :)

Not me.... not ready for channa yet.... I love to put my hands in the tank....

We do have many fish keepers keeping various species of channa though...

And baby channa micropeltes is my favourite feeder fish :lipsseale :lipsseale:

If I keep channa, my favourite as of now is the channa fire and ice.... somehow attracted by the color

Just got a reply from my fish shop friend -- he has this Channa Barca at his shop in Bangkok; price he initially offered was 55,000 Thb (~US $1,760 -- about $200-400 more than I paid for each of my 2 Malaysian Gold Xback Aros, and about the same price as a high quality 10"-11" Super Red), though I reckon it could be negotiated down somewhat. But again personally not really interested, awesome as the fish is.

Esp. at this price it suggests even more that captive breeding efforts have been successful at least to some degree, so perhaps we'll see more and more on the market in not too distant future (and it would be a positive example of how the aquarium hobby can help save some species from possible extinction).
