well i just got the deal of the century from craigslist. the trick is this. don't travel for more than an hour to get ANY good deal. wait til it's closer. Know where you're going. The requests for name, address, etc are the same spam that you get in your normal email "you've won the australian national lottery"

and the most important trick is this. it takes 3 seconds to create a new email address. link your craigslist email to that one. then who cares what's sent there?

I meet the person at a public place for small items that I'm selling. Sold my ipod in front of a crowded restaurant. Plenty of witnesses if they're crooks. I have no car so tanks have to be delivered to my house. I had people flake on me for a week straight before finally getting a 50g(just the tank) for $35 and his word that he would keep his eyes open for a stand.

My local CL has people asking too much for their used tanks. That being said, every now and again someone puts a tank on there for a good price. That's usually when I don't have the money to buy it :wall: :shakehead

I've got at least a dozen free tanks on craigslist, that's usually where I buy all of my tanks. Theres good deals on there, but theres awful ones too.

The freecycle is a good way to pick up stuff too. If you don't know what it is google it!

I would have gone to look on the pic.

There is no way I would even think about driving across town let alone 2.5 hrs from that single picture...

I always ask for multiple shots from multiple angles...Ask for close ups.
Two things get done that way. I can see what we are talking about, and I can tell it's not a rip off. Lots of people have been lured into a good deal only to be robbed at the meeting place.

I'm sorry it didn't turn out, but I know myself, I have wanted something so bad, most of my common sense went away...
Thanks for the heads up, I never thought of it that way.

Yeah but there is the freaked out fear factor if they're home in bed.

I drove 1.5hrs to get a hang on the wall aquirum. She said it was new in box (that's why she couldn't take a pic, 7ft, had all parts, and that it went for $2,500 new. I knew that was wrong but we agreed on $600 ($1000 is what I priced them at).

It wasn't new or in the box and the only part it had was the light which had a non-US electical plug and only 6ft. I offered her $150 and she got all snitty. Well if she hadn't lied.....
