Crayola Play Sand

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's only safe in a Crayola aquarium with fish drawn with Crayolas! :D :grinno: :screwy:

No as someone said it is not safe for aquariums. Plus imo the colors would look ghastly in an aquarium.

I believe it says right on the bag that it's not safe for aquarium use.
Just about all sand you buy at Home Depot, Lowes, or wherever says it's not safe for aquarium use. For the most part, it just means they haven't tested it with animals and don't want the liability for saying it's ok.

(P.S.) about how they take bad care of their fish:(

well hell, I'll see if i can find some tomorrow and give it a test over the weekend, I'll be out of town so if the fish are good tuesday we'll know.

My bags of it didn't say it wasn't safe for fish. It said it was non-toxic (since kids play with it and undoubtedly eat it). I've used it in 5 or 6 tanks. The color was too bright and distracting though so I changed to dark sand after 3 or 4 months. It rinses out fine and didn't cloud my water at all.

If it's like they say it is, you should be fine. Quartz Sand (non reactive), acrylic dye (safe for fish). The only problem is the rough edges talked about in the other forum thread, but not really a problem for most FW fish. For the fahaka comment, I don't think it would be wise seeing as they have soft underbellies and sleep on the substrate.

Any updates from the trial run with a 10g and goldfish?

wow, 4 pages and no pictures of any "florescent, day glow", tanks yet. Curious to see one.:WHOA:
