Hi,
Between 1400u$ and 1700u$ for 12 days.... but the airfare is NOT inlcuding....the price depends of;
a) how many people
b) how many days
c) how many miles we drive around
But EVERYTHING is including...all food, lodge, all transport (around 2000-2300klm.) + driver + guide, all permits (collecting in private fields), export + sanitary cert. for USA, Europe or Asia + around 110-120 fishes....so I am not so sure if the trip is expensive?....everything depends of what you compare with?; because only the fact that you can bring back more than 100 fishes (LEGALLY!!!) worth more than 600-700u$....means a lot....and legally ;)...not many other countries can offer the same.
I could name a lot of other reasons....:).....but my english is not enough :irked:

Felipe

Thanks Felipe, the pikes and Gymno's will be worth it!

how much does a trip like that cost?

Depends pon how many people are going, $1300-1600 for two weeks in country, which is all inclusive, travel, food, lodgeing, ect. Felipe treats you right, plus your airfare, plan on $3000. well worth it, I still have two spots open for the December trip Dec. 2-13 2008. PM me if interested. Ken

Generally the whole trip with tickets and everyting involved is around $1500 to $1800...give or take a few hundered. Not cheap, but you can always save up for a while! I believe the go each year! Still waiting for that Brazil trip...:D :D :D RIO NEGRO AND RIO XINGU will never be the same! :D :D :D

Man I can never read your post, the pink just don't work for me. LOL Brazil trips are possible, but no collecting, just go and look, The Brazilian govermnment won't let you bring fish back, and if you are caught smuggling them out, it's jail time! That's why Uruguay is so great. Felipe takes care of all the permits for you and makes sure you have no problems at the airport, I can attest to that first hand! Ken

Felipe speaks excellent English (plus about 5 other languages) he's just modest. These are the ultimate in collecting trips. Ken

when did they ban coo\llecting in brazil?

does that mean they can collect and send to the U.S.? So its more like a keep the money coming into Brazil not going out of brazil?

Brazilians can collect, but not anyone else. Ken

Ken; I thought the same.....but I think that even the brazilians, now, need (legal) permission for collecting! I am almost sure that we have some brazilian people here at the forum...and I hope he/they read this one so they can better explain.
Dr.Luiz Malabarba (you know..G.meridionalis, G.rhabdotus, etc, etc) from Porto Alegre told me for some months ago that even he needed to ask for it before they did some fieldwork/collecting.
And I use to be at the brazilian cichlid forum and I got the same info from some brazilians.
I think they have the "same problem" in Argentina.....my friend Ariel Puentes (who also use to be here) can maybe tell us how it is in Argentina?
But the fact is that the "roules" get harder and harder and much because all the illegal collecting in South America.....so....IF people can do it legally....why try on the other way??...you are soooooo right when you say "jail time"......:(
