Man I can never read your post, the pink just don't work for me. LOL Brazil trips are possible, but no collecting, just go and look, The Brazilian govermnment won't let you bring fish back, and if you are caught smuggling them out, it's jail time! That's why Uruguay is so great. Felipe takes care of all the permits for you and makes sure you have no problems at the airport, I can attest to that first hand! Ken

Speaking for collecting in Brazil. http://www.cichlidae.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4716&p=28246#p28246

WOW! I missed that one! Getting caught up in the politics I think is the worst possible scenario.

The Brazilian government takse Bio-piracy very seriously. All you have to do is get the permits to be legal, Don't buck the system and you won't have this happen to you. get the permits to be legal, Don't buck the system and you won't have this happen to you."

You are so right......

The IBAMA and the brazilian government have what they call a "black list" with more than 50 names of foreigners collectors....and they share that list with other countries in South America.......so....we can like it or not....we can discuss it how much we want ....but ....the (sadly) fact is that the illegal collecting only makes harder laws for us who work with it and have the collecting as we say; "for living" and not just for fun!
Anyway...I am very glad that Uruguay, still allows my clients (through my permission from the Ministry) to keep and bring back home an special amount of fishes.... but I hope people can understand the situation and realize that our governments are very serious with this problem....we are in 2008....not 1492!!

You are correct Felipe, There are right ways to collect and wrong ways, Heiko has made a name for himself by his past practices and the Brazilian government was watching him and waiting for this to happen, smuggle wildlife and pay the price. If more people would follow the laws and get correct permits then the governments would not feel they have to go to these kind of drastic measures. I believe Heiko and his wife are in serious trouble in Brazil. Ken

Ouch!! That sucks! LOL!! Play with fire, you get burnt.

Even a collecting trip to Columbia or Peru would be cool!! Crenicichla a plentY! :D

I'm surprised there aren't more Crenicichla vittata collected on the trips. They are GORGEOUS pikes for sure!!

Ken, hahaha!! I use the grey skin, pretty easy for me to see pretty much any color. The light skin SUCKS!!
