  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yea something a little closer in size and a little less tempting I'm sure would work out long term.

I had C. regani pair with black neon tetra (Hyphessobrycon herbertaxelrodi). Male 5 inch, female 3 inch. I put 40 tetras as feeder fish and after 3 month I still had 40 tetras. Some tetras had 1inch! Than I bought 2 C. zebrina 6inch and all tetras were eaten in 5 days.
Friend of mine had livebearer fish with C. regani and male ignored even newly born fish.
It is possible to have C. regani with apistograma, you just need luck on mild male.

thats encouraging. i plan on adding tetras but i feel like it will have to be a tall bodied fish, i think with a fast moving tetra shooting around it might just be too much temptation

the most promising thing about this is that i was hoping i could add some discrossus malcatus and this fish being comparable in size that might just work.

So update for anyone looking to try this, the apisto is dead, not eaten though. However I suspect it was an attack maybe shortly after she was introduced that injured her tail pretty badly and I feel like that played a part. It could work though...

Thanks for taking the time to come back and update. Always hard to lose a fish but ssometimes it's worth the risk to advance your knowledge.

I thought it would be worth it to update. So many times these threads just die (mine included) and you never find out what the out come is if you are reading this down the line. I was prepared to pull the little girl if she looked like she was dinner but it seemed fine, she had her spots and everyone had the rest of the tank. She was eating etc. Definitely not ideal. She seemed stressed, but not in danger per say. I think it was the injury she got to her caudal fin and tail most have got infected or something. It didn't even look like anyone picked at her after she died.

I've done apisto's with dwarf pikes twice. The first time worked great because I got them all young and grew them out together. The second time, the regani were full grown and the males swallowed up the apisto's.

I know this is old, if you had a bonded pair of m and f, the male woulda been one hell of a fighter, could probably protect eachother
