Crenicichla sp. "Atabapo Fire"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've never had a problem with mela or pima, but I will just let them work their way out and keep on the salt and increased temp. I think they're just battle scars now, though.

I think it ate a couple pellets last night, but I never see it eat. I'm not going to feed it feeders, but I still need to try tilapia and shrimp.

mine has red and black dots and the only other pics I've seen are on the creni website and the male has more red spots than the female.

it's the 1st ... as he has something else as "FIRE"[/URL]

very nice to finally see someone else's though
it must be a female, then as it doesn't have as many spots. It looks the same as the pics you posted before. I haven't noticed any black spots. I'll try to get some pics of the caudal end to show the spots. I wish I knew where it came from. Do you have any new pix of yours? How big is it?

kewl. plz post pics as soon as you can :)

These marks on its head don't seem to be going away and they should with how I've been treating it. I wonder if they're here to stay. I would love to get this guy out of this lame tank.

I want to apologize in advance for the length of this post. Please read the whole thing. There are some imbedded questions that I need input on.

It's been over a month of treatment without change. I treated the tank w/ Jungle Parasite Cure (has metronizadole along w/ other stuff) and salt for 3 months, along w/ 50% water changes once a week. During that time, it also had some pima and mela in the tank as I was treating a beat up green severum in the same tank. However, I could only get the temp up to 84 or so. Then, for a week, I was treating with PraziPro. There has been no discernable change in appearance of the wounds. I think they must be old battle scars that never healed properly and won't ever.

Good news is that it ate some tilapia chunks last night. What do y'all think? Is it permanent, unharmful damage?

I tried to find some meds with just metronidazole, but couldn't. The place I went to is the only place in the area I know of that has a lot of meds. They are out of the capsules of metronidazole and aren't getting any more because they company they got them from discontinued the product. They have the Jungle Hole N Head powder, but they are old and do not contain metronidazole. Petsmart lists it on their website, but do not have it at their stores around here. Does anyone know where I can get any of it in the Denver area or at least LFS that carry a good supply of meds? If it's not HITH, I am probably just going to order Fish-Zole online for future needs.

Seachem Metronidazole is the best bang for the buck as far volume treated. Hikari Metroplus is also good just does not go as far.

It is the same drug as Flagyl just the generic version.

That is a large container they usually sell 5g tubes.

thanks for those. I don't know where to get any of that around here.

to sum, here are my questions:
1) where can you get metro meds in Denver?
2) is it HITH or permanent scarring?

Did you try Todds Tropical's? Other then that the only other place I would assume to carry anything close to what your looking for is FIsh Den and I am sure you have been there.

nope, didn't try Todd's. I forgot you told me that have quite a few meds there. Fish Den is where I looked yesterday.

I talked to MTN_PIKE last night and he said they are scars from a previous bout of HITH. I need to get the water in my 210 straight before I can put it in there :irked:

I forgot to mention that I put it in the 210 probably 2 or 3 weeks ago and it's doing great so far. The water even cleared up in the 210, but my sump is just about finished, so I should never have cloudy water again. Once I get everything running smoothly, I will try for some pix.
