"CURE" For DROOP EYE

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
delgado and ethnics...you guys are missing our point. im not as much concerned with how its eyes look, but what causes it. i just find it stange that one speies of fish have such a wierd problem. why not all the aros? its not like im going to get rid of my aro just because of it eyes! im just very curious as to how such a common problem can have no cure or solid evidence as to where it comes from.

It is very strange...and I still think a solid scientific study with a grant from the government for a half million dollars could help identify the cause. Many different variables from small tanks to large tanks, bare/not bare bottow and such. Would be a great way to get funding for a huge aquarium too lol.

pima's get it too and they are the aro's only cousin in the bony tongue family

Maybe the "fat pack" theory is the reason. Fat packs collect behind the eye from the less-than-wild-swimming behaviors and causes pressures to drop the eyes. This theory is the only one I almost agree with. But it is still a theory. Wish there are facts out there about it.

a grant for research would be awesome....someone SHOULD look into that.

Let me add something to this discussion. While it is more common for silvers to have DE, Asian aros do suffer this problem too. It is not uncommon for Asian aros in fact to have DE as well as PLJ. Perhaps it is not so evident to many here might simply be because Asian aros are "rare" in the states for instance. So, while silvers seem to apparently suffer from DE more then others in the aro family, the rest too have this problem.

Very interesting indeed....thanks for the input.

you as an ordinary hobbiest (like me and everyone else) will never find out what really causes it, theorys are as far as you (and us) will get.

you may be absolutly right, but it's that attitude that is keeping people from finding out. no offense, but it seems like people have just given up on trying to figure it out. they just accept this as normal. i'm pretty sure it's not normal...common, sure.

so all the aros are known to get it and it's occured in pimas too. anyone know of any fish in a different family that has gotten it?
