Curious about these foods.. Kens fish, HBH, and New Era

Most quality fish foods will have a strong odor due to a large portion of the raw ingredients being comprised of fish, krill, shrimp, etc. That's a good thing!

If it doesn't stink, you're probably feeding a fish food that has a large inclusion rate of terrestrial based plant matter, such as wheat, corn, soybean, peas, rice, etc. That's not a good thing.

If odor is an issue in the bedroom, my suggestion would be to run carbon in those tanks, not to feed lower quality starch laden food.

I use kens pellets I did not notice the odor.another brand is a vendor here, yourfishstuff.used that also with no problems. In addition to varied diet, I use veggie wafers or pellets

The other foods you listed make a far bigger mess , nls is a great great food. I started feeding a mix of Ken's and nls and so far it's working out well but my water gets dis colored a little, but im feeding full hand fulls of the mix at a time.

Hey RD. I do want the best food for my fish it was the whole reason I switched solely from hikari to NLS. For some time now I've been feeding nothing but NLS.

I've had the odor issues since feeding the NLS. So I know I'm not feeding lower quality. I prefer to not run carbon in my tanks due to potential association of carbon and HTH.

I've got variety of fish. Some parachromis some vieja some amps som other various breeds. What would you recommend? I'm sure I need some mix of plants and protein.

Yes Jeff I am.

..... and there's the problem. The TherA formula has a MUCH larger inclusion rate of garlic, compared to the regular NLS formulas. Some people don't notice the extra garlic odor, others find it too offensive to feed, period.

I never tried Ken's of New Era so can't say anythig about them one way or another. I have tried HBH and wasn't crazy about it and nutritionally it isn't even in the same league as NLS. I feed Thera +A and it does have a stronger oder then regular NLS but it never colored my water.

Thanks Tom. Been feeding primarily thera +a as well.

HITH has never been associated with carbon, or carbon dust. The only study in existence that proved a possible connection was with head & lateral line erosion (HLLE), and marine fish - not freshwater fish, and not HITH disease. IMO it's a non issue.

Either way if you switch from the TherA to the regular formulas that should solve most of your problem. That, or start feeding foods that contain less fish/krill, and more starch. As previously stated, any decent quality fish food is gonna stink.
