My male has no red under his throat sean. All 3 females are blazing red. That is why I initially thought yours was a female. My largest female is very nice looking. She just doesn't have that huge head and quite the bulk of the male. I had heard the most of them max out a 14" in an aquarium? I'm a little scared to see how big mine is going to be if he is just shy of 14" and only 2 years old.

well that makes +2 more females i thought were males. my sveni was showing like a male until last month or october when its belly started to color up and get spots on the dorsal fin. i thought the psittacus was a male b/c it grew the fastest out of the 5. oh well :D she's doing great and still boss in the tank. the new spec. doesn't mess with her or even try

maybe I should get a big female back from you JD. Mine seem to have lost interest in "it".

I can hook you up. What ever it takes to get some more of these guys in the hobby. As long as I always have 2 females I should be good.

Female pikes often look better anyway. I'd say you got lucky on that one;). I know the feeling about sexing fish sometimes. I've been wrong my share of time too.

either way its a gret looking pike. when the belly starts to turn a bit more pink she'll be killer. she's starting to get that "pike attitude". she mouths the bichirs and will have fits with the datnoid

Did the same thing - kept the fast growing sev out of a group of 5 and it turned out to be a female....

:ROFL:If people here didn't know we were talking about fish that would seem like a pretty wrong statement that I made.

Hey jworth,
I'm the one with both of them. The psittacus you got from Ken are the columbian variety. They have more browns/greens in them and not nearly ar much red. The red breasted ones you see generally come from brazil or could be a cross of the 2. I have 4 offspring from the pair that Peter has that are in the range from 9"-14" and are still growing. The male is going to be a giant. I have one aldult from the same pair that your little ones came from. It is a touch smaller and looks similiar, just doesn't have as much red.

Are these f1's then? could you put a link with the pics?

Sorry to get off track Peter.
