Cycling?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Pack your tank with cheapo goldfish, or get some existing bio media to dump in there. Do lots of water changes too to practice for what you have in store..

LOL, i'm already for the water changes. I've got as much free water as I need and a ton of 5 gallon buckets. I also have a sliding door right next to the tank so I can throw the siphon out the window and let it drain.

If you can't answer how many tanks you have, and how long you have kept fish,I would guess you only have the 1 uncycled tank, and 0 experience with fish.

Planning on upgrading to a larger tank later on is never a good idea.Buy fish that will fit in the tank you have.In a 125 there are lots of possibilities.

When you start asking questions about cycling, and you think that 10,2'' and 3'' fish is enough to cycle a 125,your inexperience is showing.

Don't be so hard on the people that are trying to help you from their experience with keeping fish.

You should read through all my post before commenting... I've already stated that I have done a ton of research and that I have no problem upgrading when needed.

Seems this is where this thread turned for the worst. Sbrodacz you DID NOT state in previous posts about either doing research or upgrading. So maybe YOU should read previous posts. Not sure why your turning all ****** on people when they are just giving solid advice:screwy:

Your tank will cycle in 4-5 weeks to the fish you have in the tank. If you add alot more bioload at that time your tank would go into a mini cycle to adjust.

if you go back to your old thread.... the first one you started ever on mfk, you will see that I originally told you that the 55 gallon you wanted to stock with a ray was a bad idea. you will also see that at one point you had enough humility to listen to reason and experience of others

Back to the original question. No I don't think your tank has spiked yet you have a rather low bio load to cycle that tank. This has been established but its important.
Cycling from a bare tank with no filter seeding takes longer than a month for me I don't know about others.

A few things to remember the BB loves oxygenated warm water 80-85 degrees so if you can turn up the heat a bit and add some air stones unless youve already done so or have plenty of oxygenation.
Another important thing is to test your tap water if you have not done so. It will give you a baseline to compare against.
Also there are some good stickies here that id recommend looking into that will walk you through the whole process.

Best of luck

And I'm learning. Have to learn somewhere.
Your right . Id suggest starting on the right foot and taking the advice of this thread as a whole and also reading my post above to possibly help you get on the right path.

I will thank you. I'm in no rush. I still have 5 weeks till the tank is cycled. That doesn't mean I'll be just throwing a stingray in. I am a huge animal person and will do everything possible to make sure everything is done right. If I do not fill confident I won't do it yet. I am not going to get an animal just to see if I can do it.

Really? So no one should buy a silver aro unless they already have a 375g tank set up?

If everyone would keep to the OPs original questions instead of giving stocking advice on what he may or may not put in the tank, this thread would go much better.

From reading your past threads I would assume your pretty much a beginner yourself.
I may not have as much experience with keeping large fish in large tanks as some people here, but I have enough experience to know how to cycle a tank, and to know that when you are brand new to the hobby, like the OP is,suggesting keeping fish that will outgrow the tank you have is a bad idea.
I have been keeping fish for a little over 2 years now,and have learned a lot.The green terror I have pics of in my gallery started out in a 20 long.He is now in a 55 by himself and doing fine.I also have a 125 with 2 O's and a common pleco.I have recently bought a 180 and although I have asked for a few suggestions on how to filter and stock it,the only the that is in that tank is a bunch of driftwood and air.
He did not state that a silver aro was the only thing he was planning on stocking in the 125.He also mentioned a sting ray and a gar.So no,if you plan on having a single silver aro,you may not need to have a 375 to start out with, but if you plan on keeping a gar and ray with it,it might not be a bad idea, certainly better than keeping them in a 125.Big fish grow fast, and big tanks are very expensive.Maybe someone with as much experience as you should let a newbie know that.
It appears that the OP got this thread off track. And myself, and everyone else, including you,ran with it.
