cats? other domestic dogs? trust me, this is a really bad idea. My friend bought some mulch, and there was dingo bait in there (poison substance) and his dog ate it. so now everyday he has to give his dogs pills just to stop it from fitting.
I used to live int the country and we had coyotes come in my yard all the time. I got a English Mastiff and when he was 2 years old he was about 3.5 feet tall on all 4's and weighed about 200 pounds. He would stay out at night and would come home in the morning covered in blood. Freaked me out first few times but I never saw anything serious damage to my mastiff. One night I heard ALOT of noise and grabbed the flashlight and the FAL and went outside to see what was going on. Well to my surprise my Mastiff was beating the crap out of 3 coyotes. Not just beating them down but I mean I was seeing a side of my dog I'd never in my right mind thought he had. By the time the fight was over I had 2 dead coyotes and one seriously injured and I shot it to put it out of it's misery. Point of this is get a Mastiff and you'll have no more dead pets. I currently have a Noe Mastiff and I'm in the process of adopting a Canary Island Dog (Presa Canario)
Well quit complaining on our forum about yotes, and complaining to the wildlife services and they will take care of your little dog, so you dont have to worry about yotes eating a yorkie. And i dont think possum are involved with coyotes invasion, they are already here whole time.
Why you yell at possum? They normally dont run away because they play dead thats why.
Check out your California laws to see if you can get rid of coyotes from urban areas. Coyotes lives in St. Paul and Minnespolis too but they take care of raccoons, possums and deer that live in urban areas.
Any canids dont like other canids share same home thats why. Its their nature, coyotes kill wolves, foxes and dogs, even pitbulls. Wolves will kill any canids. The only solution is you need to change your dog's patterns. no more night business time.
Did you left any food outside? I bet it cause the coyotes become problem when they see dog food as free and easy to get it. Therefore coyote check out any yard to see if they have dog food or not. Its not coyote's fault.
3 suggestions. Guard Donkey. Cougar Urine. Electric Fence.Guard donkeys will kick thier- um, ***-. or I have heard preditor urine (like cougar) keeps them away. Electric fencing along the top of your wall might help.
Yeah, you are right and wrong. It is their fault that they are preying on domesticated animals. While it is our fault that we are taking over their areas, the houses are already there and aren't going to be torn down just because some coyotes want the turf. They are pests(in that area) now, and need to be removed. If the city isn't doing anything, you need to take care of this "situation" yourself. Someone mentioned a crossbow. Thats a good idea. It's not a firearm and is plenty strong enough to take care of coyotes. Shoot from up high aiming down. This way if you miss, or it goes straight through, you will hit the ground instead of your neighbor's house. If you are safe about it, I'm sure the neighbors won't mind because these things are picking off their pets, too.
The thing that most people don't get is that killing one or two (or even a dozen) will not stop more from moving in. Coyote populations tend to be cyclical, you're probably experiencing a peak right now.
By the way, poison is a bad idea. The animal you kill horribly could be your own.
