thanks for the very interesting information. Could you please give us a clue on how to sex the dats?

i'm not sure about the full details, as all i can see is the full grown being paired up and putting into a 10x10 meter pond for about a week which before they were put into the same tank to see if they are compatible for a dayt or two before finalising it in the pond. after around 20 days, voila, i see baby dats taken into the concret ponds.

but i heard that the fishery dept is trying to artificially breed them to speed up, the info is unlcear but i heard that the survival rate is alarmingly low, will keep you posted when there is a breakthrough.

some pictures of the eggs fry and how they spawn would also be great

one thing i would love to know is whats the point in captive breeding ST in thialand if you are not allowed to export them

if you do try to export them how can anyone prove they are not wild caught as they dont have chip/tag like aros to prove they are captive bred

the thing is that the rate fell so dramatically that the fisheries codln't have enough time to have enough full growns to breed, which alot of the full growns and wild were being caught and exported so quickly and at the same time, captive breeding hasn't been fully successful with the survival rate being low with huge demand overseas, made the Thai gov't have to take immediate measures to limit this demand.

this happended after one of the biggest, last and most important wideband siamese tiger natural habitat in Thailand found no tiger fish in there for five years. then there was news two years ago that a local villager caught a female full grown tiger around 4 kgs, or almost 30 inches ( very stunning ), but died before the fishery dept got there to take it and breed it. therefore was later eaten, sad but true and it was considered a delicacy in the past.

since then the fisheries have been trying to contact local tiger collectors to sell or donate ST's to breed and give back to the wild.

so that is how i started to give, rent and sell my ST's to the fishery dept to breed and release them back to the wild.

therefore if successful, the next generation of ST's will be one of the finest any Thai and foreigners will see; as alot of perfrect ST' s were mated.

so wish those fisher dudes the best of luck.

at the end of the day has anyone captive bred ST in thialand if so have you got any pictures of the fry or eggs

the info you are giveing says that they are trying to captive breed ST not that it has been done

it was easy to see that the amount of small ST taken from the wild would have a big impact on the wild population as it takes ST a very very long time to get to adult size

if you see any small 1-3inch ST for sale now its not a good thing as all it means is we are just giving the final blow to the wild population of ST

it was easy to see that the ST were getting harder and harder to find as the importers started inporting the real low grade ST which they started calling patchy ST and even this was a craze in singapore a few years back they all brought the so called patchy ST

i can see that ST wide bars pulchers what ever you want to call them will be gone in a few years

and i have yet to see any prof that captive breeding has happened

We need less effort on some of the asian arows which aren't really that rare anymore and more on Datnoid breeding.

the problem hear is the way they are trying to breed them buy taking adults from the wild putting them in tanks or pond hoping they will breed

all this will do is stop the adults they are takeing breeding in the wild captive breeding may start but wild breeding will stop if you are taking all the adults

as stated above it was a big deal that a 4kg adult was found were as a few years ago i bet they was lots of adults that size

Well, if that was true, we would see them every year around the same time. I havent seen indo dats for years, at least the 1"ers

I have 16 of them, all 1 inch long or less when they were bought back in March...

Maybe you haven't seen them, but I've spoken to several people that have either bought or seen 1" long indos this year. There are several threads where people mention seeing 1" indos for sale. Most seem to be around the same time I posted my threads about mine, back in march.
