David R's 2000L tank build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Bah, I uploaded that pic from my phone and was planning on editing the post with all these pics but ran out of time...

Today is the day!! Just spent the past two hours emptying the 400L and catching the fish to transfer them to the 2000L. I moved the aro first, caught it in a large plastic bag and carried it downstairs to acclimatise.

Then it was the plecs, damn they can make a mess!!

The big Panaques have also been doing some serious wood-eating, this once thick and interesting piece had been chewed down to paper-thin in the middle and snapped when I picked it up.

All caught and ready to be acclimatised

Of course I had a very attentive helper through-out the entire process...

Transferring to the big tank, one of the smaller L14

Biggest L190

This was him exactly 13 months ago, grown from about 6cm to a solid ~20cm

Same fish

Thin striped L190

My favourite of the four L190

Last of the L190, this one doesn't have great patterns but it does look like they could be getting kinda spotty (L330-ish?), and I love the fact that it's a short but stocky little tank.

Largest of the three L14

L81

Sadly I didn't get any of the L128, they didn't seem to like sitting still! Now for the fun part, cleaning up the mess! I'll take shots of the tank later tonight when it has settled down. Now the 400L has no fish I can use it to soak the bigger pieces of wood I'll eventually add to the big tank.

oh man thats awesome, i love your black aro! and after you soak the other driftwood in the 400l whats the plan for it? lookins like it would make a nice planted tank....:P haha good work man love the tank :)

I suggested we move it to the lounge, but she is holding me to my agreement that with a tank this big it is to be my one and only tank (and fair enough, it was all part of the deal when I sold all my old tanks before we moved!). I'll have a small 200L as a quarantine tank, but that's it. For now.....

:D

The plecs look very pretty - do all these fancy L numbers do anything with algae or is that just the fat old common plec? What do you feed them? Do the realise when you put food in that it's there or just nibble on waste?

The royals are constantly rasping at the wood so no algae gets a chance to grow. Haven't had trouble with it on the rocks or glass either. I feed them a mix of Hikari wafers and NLS Mega Fish sinking tablets, plus courgette once a week. I usually feed just after lights out, sometimes with one small night-light on and they usually come out fairly quickly. Given that they've got three times the floor area to try find the food in now it may take them a little longer!

ps. nice avatar, very jealous!!

There was a few imported about 18 months ago, and I managed to pick up this one. They're pretty hard to come by here, after selling my first one in 2002 it took about eight years before I had the chance to buy another.

Here's a couple more pics, I put the 4' fluro off the old tank on there so there is a little more light, can't wait to get some LEDs set up though.
