They are both fairly new, yes. One came from the LFS (and she was in great shape, except for being a little thin). The one that was in really poor condition came from TFD.com

Update: in addition to doing massive waterchanges, we have added quite a bit of carbon to the system to help pull out the fluketab; about how long should we wait before taking it out? I don't want it leeching anything back into the water

LOL... Story of my retics.

I had "Thickburger" for ONE year. Got him from a LFS. Gave him the name cause after a few months it was way thicker than most Retic pics you see. After the first year I felt kinda smug..... These things aren't that tough to keep, lil time, dedication, and some late night reads, and it worked. So I thought I'de reward him by bestowing some ladies on him..... Ordered 2 Retics from TFD, along with a bunch of other stuff to meet the min. order. Not going to get into details but to make a long story short I only had "Thickburger" another couple weeks..... ALL rays were dead within a month's span.

Just MY opinion........ But EVERY single ray that is introduced NEEDS to be QT'd. After the recent horror stories of Black worms I would offer nothing but Prazi injected red wigglers for at least the first 2 weeks. After that I'de feed whatever. If they make it through great...... if they don't, lesson learned and you know what to expect if you want to try retics again. Myself, it was an easy choice. I had Motoros swimming around within a month.

I dont believe that fine sand will do anything to your rays.

Also, you said that they are uncurled now, so i wouldent do anyhing about the sand (why stress them yet again?).

And Miles, do you seriously belive that the orbignyi died because you moved it to a tank with fine sand????

I impoted 20 rectis 2 weeks ago. And i had them on drip for 1 hour. As soon as I moved them to the new tank, 3 deathcureld within an hour. This tank dident have any sand.

All were thin, and in bad shape. Like the orbignyi.

Moving fish to new water paraments (<-- spelling?) can be very stressfull. And im sure thats what kills them.

Flowers often deathcurel after they have been added to their new home. ;)

And it dosent really matter if there is sand in the tank or not. :)

And im also pretty sure that rays deathcurel do to stress. Not ammonia or nitrite.

the rays seem slightly less curled now; they still are lethargic and undulate in place constantly. They still look like something is seriously wrong, but they are recieving the best care I can provide. If anyone has any more good advice, post it here.

With the carbon and the amount of water changes you have done the meds should be gone. I would slow down on the water changes to one a day, leave the lights off and not disturb them unless you have to. Are they eating anything?

Not to derail/hijack, but was curious, I have read in several threads now about injecting Prazi into new rays food or for rays with parasites. How much do you inject into the wigglers?
Can you overdose them?
Just trying to learn before I make the plunge and get the addiction.

By the way glad your rays are doing better.

They are eating a lot. They are still slightly curled and they are acting sick. Hopefully they will pull through!

I was injecting Canadian Crawlers. I would fill them as full as possible. If I remember correctly it was like 5 MG /worm. I'de feed 2-3 medicated worms then 1/2 dozen unmedicated. This was to a Marble that is roughly 15 inches across.... I asked about the OD thing and never got a straight answer. So after losing one I wasn't going to just do nothing.... So I fed these mediacted worms twice a day for a week. NO ill effects whatsoever and 2 weeks later...... NO visible hip bones.... And the only ray I have that comes to the surface to hand feed.

I also mediacted shrimp and smelt but they didn't seem to hold the med like the worms did.

If dosing the tank with 8 times the recommended dosage doesn't harm them I don't think some mediacted worms will......
