Disgusting. Some of the comments on that article are stereotypical anti-pit in nature, gets my blood boiling.

I agree. The vet said the way the bullet holes are, the dog was probably in a sitting position when he was shot.

completely uncalled for!!!!! The police probably entered the back yard not suspecting a dog. then the pooch suprised them---Absolutely no excuse!!!!! What happens if we shoot a police dog? We get the same charges as if we shoot a police officer. My Grandfather always told me that there are three occupations that a few bad seeds have completely ruined. They all start with the letter P. Polititions,Preachers, and Policeman.

What's this world coming to?,

The great part about all the anti-pit stuff is that the dog is a fox hound/american bulldog mix. We are trying to pull together and get justice for Harley. So far he made the news yesterday and they are doing a follow up on him today. I'm hoping the cops actually get what's coming to them. There was no reason for Harley to be shot.

Here you can see him and his wounds

Here:

SAN CARLOS PARK, Fla. - A Lee County deputy goes in a woman's yard, and ends up facing off with a family pet. He shot the dog twice, and now the owner is furious, demanding answers, saying her dog did nothing wrong.
Christine Bonelli was inside her San Carlos Park home Thursday afternoon when she heard two shots. "First I thought it was fireworks and said no, that's gunshots I think," Bonelli said.
She stepped outside to find two deputies and her Foxhound Mix "Harley" with gunshot wounds. "Blood was coming out of his shoulder and on his leg, coming out of his mouth," Bonelli said.
A neighbor tells WINK News he warned deputies that Harley was in the fenced-in backyard, but they continued on. "They said he was in the chair when he came in the yard, and he came running and barking at them, protecting his property, he didn't bite them, he might have shown teeth, but they shot him twice," Bonelli said.
According to a Sheriff's Office spokesperson, deputies were responding to a domestic dispute nearby, and searching for a girl that ran off. A deputy knocked on Bonelli's door. When there was no answer, he walked to her backyard through an open gate. That's when he said, an "aggressive Pit Bull" charged at him. The deputy hit the dog, and when it would not yield, he shot twice.
"They felt he was threatening and they shot him and I think they overreacted," Bonelli said. "What does a dog do? It protects the property and I was told by the police when I got robbed to get a dog. So I did what they said, and they shot him."
Within hours, Bonelli created a Facebook group called "Justice for Harley." Unemployed for two years and already struggling with bills, Bonelli thinks the Sheriff's Office should have to foot the medical costs. "I didn't expect my dog to get shot today," Bonelli said.
Lee County Domestic Animal Services fined Bonelli $268 for what they called, Harley's "Threatening/menacing" behavior. They are now looking into why the gate door was not secured, although Bonelli maintains the gate was shut.
The Sheriff's Office spokesperson says having to use force with animals is always a last resort and not something they ever want to do. There is good news - the veterinarian says Harley is doing well.

This crap happens ALL the time. Wanna see one even more disgusting? How about SWAT shooting a poor little Corgi, simply for barking

(rolls eyes)

It is real easy to be an arm chair quarterback.....

None of you were there. None of you witnessed the dogs behavior. You are all relying on the media coverage and the statements of an angry biased owner....

Anything the owners says is also hearsay as she did not see the dog approach the officers either.

From a legal stand point the officers had every right to enter the yard in search of a suspect/victim of a crime.

I'd like to see any of you walk a mile in an officer's shoes. Dealing with the disrespect (as is obvious by this thread), abuse, and horrors that they see/deal with every day....I think you would all end up with a very different perspective.

Give me a break....

I'm sure with the right atterny she will win a law suit and get enough to hurt the department which they obviously deserve. A similar situation happened with police with a friend back in high school. They came into his house to break up a party and when they entered the kitchen his English bulldog was in there didn't bark or anything they shot him on site. They pressed charges and sued and not only did all of us at the party get underage drinking charges dropped but the family got 50k in compensation and the dumb ass who pulled the trigger was fired all after a state investigation.
