Totally relate to living in a "fishkeeping wasteland". I live in the UP of Michigan, people on Craigslist and in the classified always list their used tanks at stupid prices. $100 for a 10 gallon? Yep, that's the kind of stuff I see everyday!

The only reason I have my 180 is because it was free (needed resealing) and it was a once in a lifetime thing.

There is a real problem here finding tanks 6 feet long or larger. Plenty of 55's, but even used they are pricey.

Finding good fish is just as hard. I drive 30 miles to the pet store and they have overpriced sick fish. Most of my stuff comes from on-line.

Can we start the "under 100 support group"?

Hello, my name is Red, and i've been without a 100 gallon for 30 years.

:cry: I so feel you. I feel like you're from the NYC tri-state area because you're prices are dead on with what I see.

I'm 35, and a 55g has been my largest tank to date. I luckily did find a 90g tank with HP lighted hood for free on Craigslist, but that was so random and won't likely happen again. Do keep looking tho, because I have seen some incredible deals on Craigslist for large tanks, even on here (out of Socal). Put some money aside for when you see the ad and hop on it as quickly as possible.

I know it's not 200+gallons, but I just seen a water tight 75g with light/hood on Craigslist for $25 today. If you see a deal like that and feel you can make money too, go for it. I've gotten a bunch of tanks and stands (5-30g) for free, which I in turn sold making close to $150. I would go bigger than 90g myself, but don't have the room.

im gonna break, im gonna break, gonna break this rusty cage and run

A trip across country and back with a Uhaul will equal the cost of getting a new tank on the northeast coast where he's at. I wish it were that simple.

Exactly!

You have to be willing to break down and go on a road trip when a deal comes up.Call it a vacation and dont figure it into the cost of the tank.

We need a MFK Loan department to help people get big tanks! Its for the hobby! Someone had mentioned dues for premium membership in another thread, maybe that could generate the capital. Members could even vote on who should get a loan. it would of course take more than just members paying dues for it to work but maybe someone with a fiscal background could figure this out.

The great news is that you don't have to spend stupid money. So long as you have an address, Bigals, Drsfosterandsmith, thatfishplace and a myriad of other retailers will sell you anything under the sun and deliver it to your door - tanks included. If you're dead set on getting a tank for a low price, chances are Craigslist is in your future.

well today, i was looking at an aquarium, on a stand, measurements, 72"x24"x24"
thats 175 gallons, 3000$ AUD (90cAUD-1$USD currently, so about 2700$ USD)
no filtration, not lights just tank and stand... not even a fancy stand.
wasn't even glass on the top.
it's horrible here.
