Yeah,

DIY, is tough. I'm not sure i have the skills, or would trust the finished product

And it's funny, the cost of tanks sky rockets one you get over 90 gallons... it's just glass. Why is glass SO expensive?

I think its more to do with the thickness of the glass although i still agree i don't get why glass thats slightly thicker costs so much more... although at the same time i guess that extra thickness does in essence equate to the equivalent of a 2nd panel... if that makes sense...

i have been wanting a 125+ for over a decade...sigh...

setups pop up for around 4-600...but i never have that kind of coin readily available.
so i figure...if i get fish that will get big...i'll HAVE to save for a bigger tank :)

I know, it sucks, doesn't it!?

I will continue to hold out hope though.

Red - tank for 125 should be around 300. A DIY stand is 1-150 and I can attest a lot easier to build then one thinks. I had never build one before (or much of anything for that matter) and it was pretty simple. Frustrating since I was anal about some of the cuts but worth it all around to have somethign exactly like I wanted for WELL less then what the store was charging.

1 FX5 if you are staying fresh with that bass is 200....

Lights and such add up though. I think I have spent another 150 in driftwood, plants and sand.....another 280 for the Marineland LED lights (to save on electric costs), and few more bucks onother weird items like a python...

Internet and craigslist are ones friend though you do have to watch out for the people that think they shoudl get 80% of whatthey spent...

dude 40 isnt that old, your still young! so think young! and im only 20 ( 21 in a month and a half ) and i own ONE tank and thats a 5 foot 112 gallon. but thats with being on a budget and all. i cant get any more or any less.

^ Yeah, thats the only reason why i didn't and most likely never will go larger than a 200G tank unless i win some crazy lottery and can afford a place thats big enough to store a larger tank...

Prices of property over here is extremely nuts and only getting worst in a lot of ways... some of the newer properties over here for what we call large flats (not houses) 1800 -2500 SQ Feet are going for around USD $2564 - $5128 per Sq Foot... and the larger the flat the more the square footage gets as in past USD $5000 a square foot...

I live in the netherlands, didn't win any lottery, and live in a small rental home. just took my hammer en started demolishing/building.
you should take a look in the site www.showjeaquarium.nl go to the "doe het zelf" section (diy section) look for DNovaNL username and it wil show you my tank. and the build of it.

While I could probably save up the $400 ...I have no room for a large tank! :nilly::cry::nilly:

Seriously though, why not save every penny possible? It may take a while but you'd have that tank, eventually!

LOL Too bad we cannot just build a big house with fish, bird, reptile and mammal rooms, ahhhh. Well, maybe build a zoo instead. :screwy: Hehehe

Can we start the "under 100 support group"?

Hello, my name is Red, and i've been without a 100 gallon for 30 years.

Hi Red-lol. i'm in nyc and bought my 180 complete stand canopy lights filters for 500. i had to drive 100 miles each way but it was worth the trip. Craigslist is all we got on the east coast it takes time and patience but something will happen for you.........BUT WE KNOW THAT ALL THE GOOD DEALS ON TANKS ARE IN SO-CAL........this site should be renamed SO-CALIFISHKEEPERS
