Here in HK we have a different problem, prices of tanks are pretty cheap, but the space a lot of these tanks sit on cost an arm and a leg... and when you consider how much property here is worth that equates to a lot of money (if you have the space for it)...

For example my 200G is sitting on a piece of real-estate worth about USD $25,130 or 14 Square Feet...

WOW!

^ Yeah, thats the only reason why i didn't and most likely never will go larger than a 200G tank unless i win some crazy lottery and can afford a place thats big enough to store a larger tank...

Prices of property over here is extremely nuts and only getting worst in a lot of ways... some of the newer properties over here for what we call large flats (not houses) 1800 -2500 SQ Feet are going for around USD $2564 - $5128 per Sq Foot... and the larger the flat the more the square footage gets as in past USD $5000 a square foot...

My plan, I do have one for my 40th year... is to upgrade one of my 30-33s to a 45, and combine my two 40s into a single 75 for my fancy goldfish. Or, if i get the raise i'm angling for, and 2011 is a better year, i will shut down one of my fancy goldfish tanks and try and grab a 90 or a 110. it's all just theory right now until the numbers shake out.

That sucks HK guys...I am with redearsunfish, I am in Jersey and the tank prices are outrageous. I, too will be 40 in 4mos. BUT, I have two 75's. Still want that 300 though...I feel you RES!!!

Red how many tanks you got up now or do you have any laying around the garage or anything like that... coz then maybe you could try and sell some of the extra ones off and maybe pick up one larger tank as an upgrade???

I've got a 75, two 33s and a 40 wet. I've only got a 33 and a 25 dry.

Selling any or all, wouldn't bring me anywhere close to the cash I'd need for my dream 200+.

I'd need 500 for the tank, what... 400 for the stand and another 400-500 for the filtration...

I am such a negative person these days... :) I blame television for that.

Yes, blame it on the TV

But damn i never realized how much some of you guys in the US have to spend on setting up tanks seen as i've seen so many people here seem to have huge setups for a reasonably cheap price...

What about those setups that come with Tank and Stand??? although i guess not many companies have tanks 200G+ as a whole setup... Either that or maybe go the D.I.Y route if you have the skills???

Yeah,

DIY, is tough. I'm not sure i have the skills, or would trust the finished product

And it's funny, the cost of tanks sky rockets one you get over 90 gallons... it's just glass. Why is glass SO expensive?
