detention?

same here, I remember attending ESL as a kid. and I remember starting school not knowing English at all

I see your points

Pretty sure OP is from the US. He's a young kids who just has troubles or doesn't care. Many people have told him he needs to work on it. He's always responded that he isn't trying. Can't help people who don't care or don't want the help

OP the problem is you don't understand that your not being punished... other students are being rewarded. You aren't "entitled" to the same things they are because they are getting their work done, and proveing they understand the work... and that is how life really works.

his location says usa, but I don't know what language they speak at home. there's a lot of people who are even born here but they are first gen, so at home growing up they speak their language and the kids have to learn English when starting school. but I don't know ts' situation. since I didn't know him I didn't wanna assume

I wasn't born here but came here very young and didn't learn English until school

Jeez..schools are getting strick..when i had detention at schools,i would go sign in..leave you're back pack and books outside.go to the restroom and just bounce..one time i got busted for heelies..the shoes with wheels..got in house and ended up shooting a fire extinguisher off in the middle of an assembly..but that's just me..lol:D

I'd be willing to bet my arse that the op is in a private school, as those can be much more strict.

I'm not trying to be the spelling and grammar police. Fact is I miss occassionally, too. But, when I see it this bad I have to try to relate the importance of being fully understood. Here we have someone who's 'forced' into a 90 minute self-study and instead of looking to improve his written communication skills is instead happier to sit back and complain about the situation. I work 50-80 hour work weeks. I'd pay real $ to be able to get a regular 90 minute period to just kick back and read.
Not trying to make anyone feel bad. I have a teenager at home who felt the same way until we chanced upon a genre of novels that [peaked] piqued his interest. Since then, he's been steadily improving in his reading and writing skills. And in the process, broadening his scope of knowledge. That's all I wish for anyone.
Thank you for reading.

Thanks. See, I said I missed, too. I miss that one because, in french, pique means; an irritation. Thanks for pointing that out.
Pique can mean either thing, depending on the context of use.

I go to a private middle-school (8th grade), but we follow a lot of standards set by the local school district. Although I don't think they should call it detention, I think they should call it "study encouragement time" although I don't have straight A's, I think at other schools I could do so, the reason they have the "detention" is because they believe their students can achieve good grades. Oscaro if you don't use grammar and proper spelling more often outside of school now, what makes you think you will have learned to use it by the time you have to get a job?
