You can inject the 3% epsom salt solution into anything that the aro IS eating, it doesn't have to be pellet food.

He will be getting the epsom salt injected worms tom morn! He ate some prawn that was soaked in epsom salt solution

Okay i got everything i need. The aro ate about 3 to 4 worms halved. Each half was pumped full of the epsom salt solution. Question, Is it possible to get too much epsom salt solution into their bellies? The rays also enjoyed the worms pumped full of solution. The male laticpes that has the wound on it stomach only ate about half of what he usually eats. Now i have the kanaplex. I was considering lowering my tank down abot 40 gallons or so for the treatment. But i also want all the tank to be touched by the kanaplex. So i opted to buy enough to dose for 180 gallons 3 times. Im a lil chicken to dose the tank but i know it has to be done. Im going to do a lil more reading and than dose withe the kanaplex.

Any excess magnesium sulphate will simply be excreted, but don't go crazy with it. :)

okay i had a 3ml needle. I prolly filled it 4 to 5 times with the solution and injected all of this into 10 worms.

Talked on the phone with someone from seachem before i dosed the tank. She was very helpful and it was cool to know that they stand by their products to the point where they will answer your call right away. SHe said for freshwater there is really no chance of harm to my fish. Unless they are already very close to death they should not be affected. She also said that they have had success with half doses for longer periods of time. But also with the full dose every second day for 4 times has worked well for them. Oddly enough it says not to exceed 3 doses on the container. So i went with a half dose right now. I will monitor the rays and add the other half in a hour or so. The aro twitched his fins when he swam thru the medicine cloud but other than that he is ignoring the dose. The rays swam away from the cloud and decided to huddle up in the corner to talk about the situation.

I say cloud but there is no real medicine cloud, i mixed it with some tank water and added it to the tank. There was no trace of it.

Im adding to this thread so much for 2 reasons. So maybe I can help someone with my experience with this nasty problem. And the other reason is because its all I think about on a daily basis. My gf sends me bbm pics of his vent 2 to 3 times a day when im at work.

Okay I used a full treatment of kanaplex. The rays have been pooping some very weird looking poops. the aro has also been pooping but its his normal ones. Im guessing the epsom salt infused worms are doing something. The aros vent is not as red more pink and its not getting any worse. Maybe even a slight improvement. The fish dont seem crazy about the kanaplex treatment. The aro is was fluttering his fins a lil. he also took a gulp of air.

Hey J. Lake, sorry about your aro and rays. The good news is that you are being very proactive in your treatment.

Kanamycin can have side effects, especially after prolonged use. This is one reason why such few doses are recommended.
Kanamycin works in a dose-dependent manner, meaning that the greater the dose given the more bacteria it will kill. Also, there is a threshold dose that needs to be reached, and if this dose isn't reached the drug will have little effect.

So there here are 3 important factors to consider when using kanamycin:
1. There is a greater chance of side effects with prolonged use.
2. A threshold dose must be reached for the drug to have any real effect.
3. The greater the dose, the more effective the drug is.

Taking these 3 into account, I would recommend giving the full dose each time over a short period of time rather than partial doses over a longer period of time. This will increase the efficacy of the drug and decrease side effects.

I would also recommend against treating with epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) and kanamycin at the same time. Kanamycin is a type of antibiotic called an aminoglycoside. Aminoglycosides are inactivated by free magnesium. Thus, the magnesium in the epsom salt will inactivate the kanamycin.

So should i do a Large waterchange before the next dose of knanplex? They recieved a full dose, i just halfed it at first to check out the rays. Just wanted to make sure they could handle it. I dosed the tank to seachems instructions. Tom is when they get hit again with the kanaplex.

If you are still using epsom salt in the tank water, then in light of what cali just posted it might be best to eliminate the epsom salt before treating with Kanaplex again. I didn't realize that magnesium had that type of effect with kanamycin. Good info calioutlaw.
