Your point is? FH should not look like pure trimac. If you want a fish that looks like a trimac and acts like a trimac why not get a trimac? What is the point of hybridization if you desire a pure looking fish?? How can you say "yea sweet FLOWERHORN you got there" if the purpose of its creation wasn't realized in the end product? Maybe the much hyped and feared (by natural cichlid purists) possibility of pollution of genetically pure aquaria stock has no effect on your thinking?
This thread hahaha....petsmarts fish generally suck, that's a given and well known fact among most informed aquaria hobbyists. that being said, I've stopped there plenty of times, and scooped up oddball patterned CL's, African bushfish, and an assortment of other random things because I liked the fish. End of the day, if you like the fish, go for it! Its about the hobby, and the fish being great pets, not showpiece furniture.
Hahhahaha wtf, would you care whether it was a pure trimac or LG flowerhorn if they look the same? You would actually spend 30x the money getting one delivered? All im saying is the guy has a nice looking LG fh that looks very trimac and you actually care about my opinion enough to rant on like a baby. Early classic flowerhorn looked exactly like the op's fish whether you like it or not, its your prob if you decide to cull of all the 1000's of defenceless baby fry in your quest for 'flowerhorn perfection', you are more Like aquatic Hitler than aggression pmsl...
And to be honest I couldnt care less about pure species of late, there are no vendors in the UK like rapps, Coa or conkal so we have no choice in the matter here. It seems the anal attutude on mfk would suggest all UK cichlids that can cross breed must be considered low grade mutt cross' cause we aint got the background... In all honesty I think its morally wrong to buy fish snatched from the wild anyway.

I guess I'm just anti-snobbery, because I will go to a shelter and pick up a mongrel and wouldn't even so much as think about an AKC certified pure bred.

It is a man made creation. There's nothing wrong with a breeder ensuring only the quality specimens are distributed. Ethically it is the right thing to do. All of you Johnny come lately guys need to breed and see the actual results of hybrid breeding and then tell me you don't need to cull or tell me you would adopt every single sub par fry from a random breeding. Nobody calls fancy goldfish breeders "Hitler" and the selective breeding and creation of new strains has been constant for several hundred years.
A side note if you live in America. We don't live under communism, you can work as much as you want for things you want. Get a part time job and better yourself or at least better your tank stock hahaha.
Hybrid purists are hilarious. You want to tell people what they should do but no one wants to listen to an ***hat. You keep trying though. The OP wasn't asking a question about where he can drop a few hundred dollars on a fish that might die but you gave your OPINION anyways...and then you gave it again....and again.
If you really want to share your knowledge with people I'd recommend you try the "grown up" approach. They're more likely to listen when there's less arrogance behind your ranting.

A purist I am not. I told no one what to do. I can't will common sense on anyone. I can throw you the keys and maybe try and make you think about things. The op thinks he ripped off a lfs that probably paid .34 cents for a fish that isn't what most people want to think of when they think flowerhorn. I think it is pathetic that there are people breeding and refining some super sweet fish and you guys are all gaga over big corporate stores selling culls lol. Unnatural fish are different than pure wild types. Saying oh they are just pets who cares about quality does not apply to selectively bred aquarium strains. I still can't get over the justification for wanting to own a hybrid that looks identical to one of its pure strain ancestors lol seriously what confused and ridiculous justification could there be for that?
