The fish is extremely uncomfortable during this period thus don't stress it further with sudden change of water parameter of any sort.

There're cases where big aro sudden death and when they are been cut open, they are full of eggs.

Just remember that aro doesn't get to eat everyday in the wild. It's us who are pampering our aro too much and we tend to stress ourselves if the aro didn't eat for a few days.;):D

Liz.. just a quick question.. by any chance does maybelline.. along the gills or the edges of the gills have a greenish tint.. I just noticed it yday while cleaning my tanks.. two of my silvers who i think are the girls have this greenish tint around their gills and they have shorter pelvic fins while the other two who i assume are the guys have longer pelvic fins and no tint around the gills??? and prob i'm totally wrong too..( just one of those silver aro keepers rantings tryin to sex them) :)

Congratulations and great thread!!

it is great that it has been shown that fasting arows are usually fasting due to eggs... and being uncomfortable... has it been shown males fast too... or is this the sole way to be guessing sex of arow... for some reason i had the suspician the fasting had to do with breeding mode... you can tell they are irritible and jumpy instead of content.... very interesting stuff koji... thanks so much.... and i did not do the water change until after the eggs... and mainly it was the undergravel filter that needed to be cleaned.. so i stuck siphon tube into tube of under gravel filter.. and it did the job.. i no longer use undergravel filters in most of my other tanks...they are good but only with some fish..... and with her i had it there since she was a baby... don't like to mess with her tank too much...also ... once i feed ..as i did yesterday...shrimp packed with pellets... i don't feed her again for a few days... koji you are absolutely right... better a few days inbetween of no food.. their stomachs are not that big..plus i always did this because most important thing in fishkeeping is water quality.. i never power fed either... not a good practice... you have to mimic the wild as much as possible.
