sigh*

I really dont understand people.
Let me give another example.

Lets say I arrived on location to find a single family dwelling, single floor with fire in the right rear roow. This is an easy bread and butter style fire. simple and easy. Instead of goin inside and fighting the fire, which is the proper thing to do, i sit in the backyard and just spray water in the general area. this will shove fire through the rest of the dwelling, is the wrong thing to do but thats what i choose to do in that scenario. Id get in trouble. Why? because what i did was against the rules. It looked bad to the public.

Another example. Old person has a heart attack in the middle of town square. instead of doin cpr on this person, because they are old and i know the chance of bringing them back is next to 0, i choose to call it. This again looks bad to the public. They are all standing around thinking, they just dropped why arnt u tryin to do anything? This would be against protocol, against what we are supposed to do, and the wrong thing to do. It, again would look bad to the public. Reality this person should be worked because there is a chance, no matter how slim its still there. these are just examples. when u work in the public u need to act occordingly. punching someone in the face for pushing u comes across as a bully no matter how u felt at the time. Its john Q public that pays our salarys and its them that doesnt know our job and are only looking in from the outside. Its those that we need to make sure we look good for. They dont know what we do, they just see what they see and make judgements from that.

LP i reffering to the story or account about continuing cpr on a dead patient for public appearance. As that was probably not an easy thing to do... being in a life or death situation escalates (imo anyways) what is acceptable even in the public eye. Im sorry but I do not expect a police officer in his situation to hamper his ability to defend himself or to overly defend himself because that was the resources he was taught at the academy. If he has something else in his resources that can get him through the situation without hurting himself or anyone else more than he has to I EXPECT him to use it, no matter who taught him how to use it (ie the punch he delivered).

lol sorry man, i really dont see how your examples relate to what happened with the cop. not even remotely close :)

its saying we work in the public eye. we need to act like we are. punching her in the face came across like a bully to many many people.

i know i sound like a broken record but its the point. u work in the public, u need to act like ur bein watchd and judged at all times. john q public does not know our job, does not know out training but what they do know is what they see and how they perceve it.

U make a joke at work and someone takes it as harrassment, what does management tell u? intent is irrelevant. Its how it comes across. he came across as a bully no matter what he was tryin to do.

Or else you could get sued. :)

LP, Maybe you need to do a drive along with with a cop in the Detroit, or here in parts of Cleveland then tell me how fast you pull your fancy politically correct moves! I have worked in law enforcement before & have many best freinds in it also. I also have been in martial arts for many years & competed in fighting competitions etc.
When its on the street its whole another world! As you may know in maybe your little town?
Training is one thing & using it can be another. When in the moment & is automatic at times to respond to what is before you.
These two woman could have recieved felonious assualt against an officer once they touched/push/grab him in anyway! Meaning they could go to a prison for the offense.
They could have just got a warning/advisement not to jay walk etc.. Plus he could educate them that if they were hit by a vehicle they would be held liable for damages etc.. ! So he was doing them a favor. Anyways they get what ever they deserve including punch in the nose to stop the threat!

Personally I think they should bring back public hanging!!! :) Maybe make some idiots think twice about doing something stupid?
Common sense & respect, do not need a college degree.

wow ur taking it way to far. kill them?

i will gladly ride with cops. ill still stand by my statement. when u are in public eye u need to act in a like u are being watched and judged at all times because u r. U need to think what will people think, and not be impulsive.

This happened in my city. Causing a lot of drama out here. He shouldn't have punched her, but they should not have assaulted an officer. A lot of officer's are on the defensive here because of the cop killings that happened around us....

Respect the authority. The individual was initially stopped for jaywalking. If you have problems, take it to court and fight that ticket. NOT brawl with a cop.

Cop's right. End of story.

I have not read the thread but will comment and then read

That cop needs to be trained in some basic basic basic manipulative moves. There was no way that he should have given her that cold cocked micky finn.

To bad the lady did not know a bit of self defense.

I think that cop will rue the day he punched her, especially in the light of the land of lawsuits today represents.
