Are there any major differences between Equadoran and Peruvian Festae??? Coluor, Body markings, size ??

Im thinking of acquiring a group and was interested in how much diversity, if any, there is in this species. I have seen pics online of a few slightly different specimens and was curious if there are any specific traits that differ with catch locations.
I really like this species, especially the blue spangled males.

Cheers

Sorry mate, im referring to ex cichlasoma Festae.

My festae looks different to others i have seen on the net, not as red and the barrs are faded. But its not wild or anything though.

The pair in the photo are in their breeding dress, and wouldnt look like this all the time. They would be far less yellow/red wih much less definition in their bars.

Its the blue spangles im interested in, ive seen some pics online where the males lack thiese blue spots.
I think the pair in the photo are Equadoran, has anyone got any pics of their Peruvian Festae??

Never knew there were two distinct breeds. Curious to see if anyone here can help you. I'd like to see pictures.

I dont think there are two breeds, just 2 different catch locations/races. Im just going off my own observances regarding subtle differences in pictures ive seen online, and trying to work out whether these differences are due to either being Peruvian or Equadorian, or just natural diversities within all Festae.

I plan on getting a group and was just doing a bit of research on this beautiful species.

there are differences from fish to fish, possibly even mayans

this raises so many queries about how many variants of species there could be.. with so many texas (carp) variants why isn't it possible that quite a number of species do as well

My local pet store swears up and down that there are regional differences - then again they swear the Hydrolycus Scomberides they sold me is Rhaphiodon Vulupinus and Serrasalmus Maculatus is Serra.Spilopleura.............and that list goes on :screwy:

After owning Festae for a few.............they change colors depending on mood ,breeding status, maturity, age, stress, the hell of it ,..and on and on.....
My ex-Festae pair have shown me every color variants ever posted on this site and more. Perhaps the dealers who sell F0's would be better able to promote or denounce the regional claim.

I have often thought there were regional/racial variants of festae, especially after looking at referance material of the 80's and early 90's when the males were all almost a solid green color instead of red like most of todays male festae.
