Dilemma feeding live food

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
sorry everyone if it triggers something in the past that i didn't know, but as i said i don't mind or no problem at all how you feed yours.

Have you not eaten far more intelligent animals than lizards? Were you filled with guilt and have you now changed your diet?
no, will still eat burger.

First is that many folks are capable of holding two or more very opposite view points in their mind at the same time. In this case feeling guilty over live food to a fish and being able to eat a burger without any problem. Same sort of thing can be found in other areas of life. I will not give examples from religion and politics because we are not allowed to discuss those topics.
this gives me a good thinking, because clearly i'm on this side, i like to know the examples, it feels like a life lesson, but yea never mind i need to discover it on my own.

I only keep fish that will eat NLS pellets first of its the best food out there in my opinion secoud have not the time or patience to screw around with any kind of live foods.

I feel guilty at killing anything tbh, I use live river shrimp, crickets, locust, earth worms and meal worms all occasionally..
I once saved some goldfish I added to my giant snakehead tank a few years back, some bitten in half but living got fed to the African pike, that made me feel pretty bad.
My mantis is pretty darn cruel to the crickets eating them alive eek.
I had an African bullfrog and that was making me feel like Hitler.
He would eat 5 boxes a week!
All my fish will take dead and most take pellets, I like to imagine all the frozen was killed humanely.
They are all living creatures, I keep 2 snakes aswell, both eat ft rats, it's actually illegal in the UK to sell any fish or mammals as live food.

I understand some fish and animals won't take dead food, I still believe every effort should be made to convert them.
I have no issue shooting a rabbit as long as I'm gonna eat it, I wouldn't kill for fun... Imo that's just wrong as is enjoying watching an animal suffer as it gets devoured... Gotta have a screw loose if you enjoy it imho. I do feel the small critters I feed are beneficial to my pets tho, that outweighs the bad feeling somewhat.
I quite often let the last couple of crickets in a box go free lol, sound like a right pussy I know!-)

I often read to fast and make assumptions. I didn't say I fed those things (feeders, lizards, amphibians.) I said I fed live food.

Again, you might have it, but I was comparing [a human] feeling guilty over causing the death of a lizard to [a human] not feeling guilty over causing the death of a cow or pig. That's what the thread is about: people feeling guilty over feeding live food.

I should have clarified. A human can feel gulit but a fish does not. Some species will only accept live foods. Humans can choose to eat what ever.

Same. I've had good results w/ NLS.
Other than the pellets I offer bloodworms and shrimp on occasion.

Ahhh! I see now where you were going. It sounds like we were each thinking of something different. And yes, you are so right.

hello; here is a thought experiment. Lets pretend Hendre can shrink you down to the just right bite size of you favorite fish. Lets also pretend that particular fish watches this happen. Say you are dropped into the tank with this favorite fish of yours.

What happens???
