Let's not get started on how dumb petsmart is. That place gives me an aneurysm every time I go in there. If I have to listen to one more moronic employee tell a customer "One inch per gallon! You can put 5 baby goldfish in that 5 gallon tank!" My head is going to explode...

I could never work in a fish store. I have no mouth filter and no patience for genuinely stupid people.

good to know i dont need him huge just big enough to not get eaten and small enough to not eat anyone, i do like the dragon looking ones much more but for this tank i feel as if he will be my best bet

The biggest problem you are going to find with keeping bichirs is they are very addictive and like potato chips you can't stop at 1

Its funny how they mark the sen at max size 18:grinyes:

maybe they were thinking of P. senegalus meridionales

Well ich is pretty common. I would assume it comes in with every shipment. Stressed fish are most susceptible and no fish is more stressed than one whose been starved, shipped, dumped in new water, brightly lit, has little cover, new faces constantly walking by, people tapping on the glass, and being chased by fish nets.

I can forgive the store struggling with stress induced issues. My local lfs grinds my gears with more serious moral infractions. Like not feeding fish, no water changes, selling CLEARLY diseased feeder fish and telling customers "it'll be ok. Predators eat sick fish in the wild all the time", I've also watched employees advise 4 and 5 medications to people with sick fish with out asking a single question about the customer's whole aquarium.

The biggest problem when it comes to ich at chain stores like Petsmart & Petco is the way they filter their tanks. Big chain stores like that run row tanks that are run off a central filtration system and the water flows through all the tanks and only one big giant filter is run in a side room for all the tanks. So one fish in any of those tanks has ich and that means all the fish are subjected to it. That's the main reason I won't buy fish from any store that uses a central filtration system. If each tank in a shop doesn't have its own filter then I'm not even considering buying a fish there.

hello everyone i have never kept these fish before and was interested in compatibility, i am putting together a 125 gallon tank with 8 clown loaches 1 black ghost knife fish and 2 African leaf fish, my question is how aggressive are these fish? will it mess with my loaches or knifefish? the bichir is very small roughly 3 inches and juvenile, i plan to introduce all at once if it changes anything, thanks everyone.
