Dirt cheap filter socks, are they safe??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah, McMaster doesn't mess around. I buy from quite a bit. Their longest delivery time is 2 days.

wow. that is impressive

Nah, they just SAY it was shipped, so when you return it they can charge you a 20% restocking fee. Then again, maybe you will forget to return them and just re-order more.

So awesome this is on here today, I went out this morning and bought a filter bag for the topfin 60 and dumped out the carbon and put that on my drain as a filter sock. Paid 2.22 for it at wally world. I am sure its no where near 100 micron, you guys always have good ideas. Thanks for the info on this.

my sock was clogged to hell yesterday when i got off of work. threw it in the washing machine for a few minutes and it came out as good as new :D

You gonna try the graduated multi-sock method? I bet it will reduce cleaning big time. If its not worth buying all those different bags, you could just use one of those wal-mart lingerie bags (like your bio is currently in) inside the 100-micron bag to catch the larger debris. Those 89 cent media bags from Petsmart would work well, too as a 2nd stage before the 100-micron bag. I'm just thinking a 100-micron bag catching a 1/2 inch leaf or poo string is serious waste of good surface area...

Just bought some the other day. Bought 8 socks total for $39 shipped from McMaster. Received them the very next day.

got mine within two days also! good thing i bought ten, im swapping out every 3 days

but one thing i noticed is it still cost about 8 bucks to get one that does 180gph
huh? i have the 100 micron 7x16" socks and they handle the flow of my 3400gph pump just fine. and these were about $3 each :)
