Sorry to hear. I hope that you keep that 300 with all the beauties inside.

Never leave the tank when you are filling it!!!
I have to live by that rule othervise it will go wrong with the lousy memory that i have.

Sorry to hear about the mess jaws. I have done the same, but my leaking drains in to the unfinished basement. Except the time I filled my 55 gallon drum, for about 24 hours. It cost me $$$$$ in water, and irrigated everything for a few weeks.
Fixed with A automatic water timer. Good luck with basement renovations.

this over flow week? sorry, it happens. for me its cause I am always trying to do 2 tanks at once, like to keep my water change times/maintenance under 4 hours. or use to.

you all will find it surprising but exept for work I am tank less for now. I have gotten into birds now, namely cockatoos and macaw.

I needed a break. and could not take care of both at the same time properly. So, I am fished out and birded up.

Dam Frank, that is bad and I can see where this would have a person questioning the investment.

Time is the great emotional moderator. Work through the situation, take some time and see what is best for you and your family.

If you do step away, I have no doubt you will return one day with a vengeance. If you hold fast the hobby and forum are better for it.

Thanks allot guys. Its reassuring to hear how many of you have done the same thing and also had doubts about the hobby. Im not going to make any rash decisions. I left it up to my wife partly because i know shes had enough and she would be the bad guy to the kids. Either way i have to set the tank up again as it would take time to sell off the fish...too long for them to sit it out in the 75 gal.

Taking hulk the pearsei out and the faranah endli kind of hit me in the gut. The pearsei bent the net and the endli was legitimately as thick if not thicker than my wrist doesnt look that thick in the tank but man its big. Raised them from small guys. Gonna be tough

Frank, that’s a tough situation. Sorry to hear about the flooding. My python valve flew off when I was filling my tank last week and I got water all over the house. Cleaning up water is frustrating to say the least.Hope you and the fish are okay. I personally like the idea of the timer or auto shut off valve. Maybe you can set a timer to see how long it takes to fill...ie(maybe it takes 60 mins ) then take away 10 mins(set for 50mins) so that way you can do whatever you want and be back in the room when it gets close to being full.

downsizing to just the 300 with the rare polys/favorite fish might be more meaningful, less maintenance, and would be only one tank to take care of. Even if you do take a break, I hope you decide to keep it because you put a lot of money and time into it. Then you can come back whenever you are ready. (maybe 75g as hospital tank ?)

At the end of the day you gotta listen to your goals and values to make the most effective choice for you. Maybe do a pros/cons list of all your options and do some problem solving. Regardless of what you choose, would love to still see you on the forum from time to time. You are a favorite and cherished member of the community!

Oh the tank absolutly stays. Maybe im just frustrated so not making a decision till after the dust settles it would be easier if the kids didnt give a crap. My daughter saw the empty tank, her eyes were as large as dish plates she says "oh no daddy where are my fish, wheres hulk dad" ugh man

and i will definitly stay active on the site no matter what.
