Hmmm... I don't keep discus but I add liquid fert once a week and definately reccomend Flourish Excel bi-daily... if you're not using Co2 (or even if you are)... also grab a cheap co2 injection like CO2-Depot... costs £6 a can and has already made a huge difference to my plant and they're growing like mad.
With the chunk missing, sure it was not just the other fish getting hungry after it had died?...
I am going to look at keeping discus in a few months ... trying to get some knowledge on them... this thread is helping quite a bit.
You adding minerals back into the water after ROing it?

Could be but I've never seen or heard of discus eating there own, you get the odd pecking to establish who's boos but after that nothing much happens. It normal kicks off when a new fish is added, but I holding off on a new one until the new plants arrive and get going.

I dosing with the standard flourish, 2 cap fulls twice a week when doing a 30 litre w/c.

I'm adding tropica marin pro discus mineral to the ro

Hmmm weird eh (not cheap fish to drop)... how much do you tend to get them for?
I only buy good quality fish, i would say £20 is an average price for a 3 inch fish, sometimes more depending on the strain. I only tend to buy them when I see them around £15, you can get them at that price if you hunt around. There seems to have been an influx of wild adult discus knocking about up here at the moment, these are going for £50 at 7-9 inch.

Yeah I was going to say I really only ever see them at £40 - £60 in LFS... I'm sure if I go further out though I could find some young ones...

It depends on what you are trying to achieve, you said you were thinking of discus, is this in a planted tank or a bare bottom?

If you want to go planted with big discus the cheaper route is to go bare bottom and small, grow small cheap quality fish out with good food and much water changing. Then add them to the planted show tank, to do it with the big wild discus could be a real pain as conditions would need to be much more traditional discus, if you know what I mean. You can get away with so much more with tank bred fish.

Roughly where are you in London(hopefully not in Chelsea as this could be our last conversation;)), £40-£60 is a bit on the heavy side for discus, like I said before, I can get full grown wild fish for £50 up here.

Try: http://www.aquarist-classifieds.co.uk/ there are a lot of good dealers on there but you also find people who's discus accidentally bred and want rid quick:)

You could always import them if you want and here's the place to do it from:

The minimum order qty is 1500euro though:(

All the soccer fans in Mauritius support either Manchester United or Liverpool :) And, when I say fans, these are diehard ones! We even had riots during live matches on occasions!

Lately, all the Man U fans were wishing Liverpool would beat Chelsea so that Man U could beat the crap out of them during the final! :D It would have been a great duel... er... match! :D But (though not unexpected after their silly own goal :screwy:), Liverpool got beaten and Man U faced Chelsea during the final.

Anyway, Man U won and tomorrow I'll have to see the sour face of my boss who, after having cried when the Reds lost, would be pissed that the team he hates had won! :screwy::grinno:

I know people here (my dad, for example) who would have killed to be working just one minute from The Theatre of Dreams...
