Discus tank conversion, bare bottom to planted

Yeah ... trying to feed them as little as possible atm.. only twice a day but will try and feed a little less.. it's not a major problem... just some plants seem more affected than others... will have a look at the water chem tomorrow and maybe do a very large change... I've only been doing 50% changes, I'll try changing a little more tomm

It's a 240 litre tank and I do two 30 litre changes per week, that's all with two cap fulls of flourish each time. Over feeding shouldn't effect the plants if anything they should take up more waste.

Forgive my forgetfulness, are you trying to grow them out in a planted tank?
If so go bare bottom buy juvis and grow them out the 'discus way' if your happy with the tank and are happy that they will never reach full growth enjoy the plants and fish.

Maybe some morphine would refresh my memory(Homer Simpson) a pic will do

So your saying that Discus won't grow in a planted tank. They just stay small and young for the rest of their lives, sort of never aging. Planted tanks are like the fountains of youth to Discus, hmmmm. Get real will ya.

No, you missed the point, of course discus will grow in a planted tank, just not as quick as they would bare bottom with lots of food and big water changes.
Most people who keep discus in planted tanks grow them out in bare bottom before adding them to the 'show' tank as it's easier and faster for them to grow. I don't mind if they grow slower in the planted tank as long as fish/plants are doing well, they will grow out in the end.

Another sick fish

Done a water change tonight and added meds, this time no ferts added, only for this change. If this one goes I'll be down to three fish in there. Remaining fish are all eating and acting normally. Going to leave it a good month or so to see if anything else happens before adding any more fish. Plants are doing well and continuing to 'flourish'

I hate it when you feel the need to post in a black font that I can't read unless I highlight it, but hey

I'm no vet but I'd guess at swim bladder, lost a fish a few weeks ago to something similar, I'm going off info provided by Mrs Y as on this shift I don't get home until, 2300, that's 1100pm in American. I don't want to treat from internals as this normally brings out the discus sensitivity and I tend to have problems with other fish, for now I'll keep treating generally and see what happens......

I'm only doing a water change once a week, if that answers the question, the tank has been on a treatment cycle for the past week to try and stop the mass illnesses although nothing seems to be working, both turks are still ill, the cobolt and the sapphire are fine. Can't work it out at all, everything is ok water wise yet the fish just aren't getting better

Nothing has changed going in, food, water etc so there can't be a problem from that front, the only new thing is the chemi pure but that can't be the problem either as it's been in a while now.

I'm just going to let things be until it straightens out, take it easy for a month and see what happens. The LFS that I got the fish from before seems to be having problems shifting the large of stock they brought in so the price is tumbling. They have also got some fully grown fish in that are huge, so is the price but Mrs Y is concerned about dropping money in the tank until what ever the problems are are sorted out
