Are sponge filters more effective than canisters. Ive noticed almost every discus tank i see they have sponge filters

No, not more effective. Sponges can harbor massive amounts of bacteria for their size, with ease of maintenance. Just squeeze them out in a bucket of tank water. This is just one reason they are so popular with discus hobbyists. If you are doing proper water changes, massive filtration is not needed on a discus tank, unless it is way overcrowded.

Very nice and considerate of you to share.:clap

I concur but sponges sure suck to look at in a display tank :grinno:

True, but a proper display tank would house adult discus anyway. :D The point of all this was to show that you could provide a proper home to house and grow out discus for relatively low cost without dumping them in with other non compatible fish.

I know. . .i was mostly just being a sponge hater ;).

Those are some smokin' checkerboard pigeons! Houston Aquarium Warehouse (Dan's place) has some juicy Tiger Pigeons right now i'm salivating to drop in a tank.

Wow! Those are sweet. Good pigeons kinda dried up for a while, now everyone's getting them.
