Yeah, more discus for a 300gal., but you're going to need more than 8, or they will feel lost in that big tank, won't eat, and hide in the corner if they are youngsters. You could get away with only 8 if the discus were all adults. I don't like angels mixed with discus, or much of anything else. In my experience, discus do best with other discus.

Hmm...Discus do fine with other fish..I keep mines with..

Crocodilefish
flounder
leaf fish
sajica
gobies
cats
african knife

ect..The discus are the most agressive..Not peaceful fish..atall..

Sure, you can keep other fish with discus. I do as well in a 240 gal., but all the fish in the tank are adults from 2 to 6 years of age. Growing discus really require lots of feedings and very clean water to reach their potential, which is why a community tank is not the best environment for them.

i would not recommend Piranhas from my past experiences. however rams, plecos, glo fish, frontosas, alto calvus, small invertebrates, eclectric blue jack dempsy, syno catfish, shell dwellers( ocelletus) roselines, neons, geophagus, woodcats, and jardini ive kept with my discus and had no problems. all depends on size of fish and how you arrange your decor and also a bit of luck.:headbang2

Thanks for the advice but I don't think i will be keeping gars with my discus... They snap at everything.

What about upside down catfishes? Can they be kept with discuses?
