Well i fully agree with the OP.
it is dishonnest. Absolutely.

+1 even if its the same species from the same location they should take their own pics. I'm pretty sure Jeff Rapps does. See this makes me wonder how many fish they sold using other people's pictures.

x2 if I'm spending a good chunk of my money on fish.. I want the exact picture of what I'm buying... I get 5-20$ fish.. if its clearly stated that the fish "looks like this" ect.. but I 100% agree... shady business. Not to mention just flat lazyness...

I would hope if your spending good money on fish your willing to look at the fish in person... if your spending so much money on fish and not willing to look at the fish in depth its a 50.50 fault imo I dont know how someone can buy a fish just from a picture?!?!?

I dont know maybe because I know the owner and know his a nice guy and his intent was not to rip people off, his actually one of the best LFS owners down here and I know pretty well all that has happend is his typed the name of the fish into google taken the first decent picture that came up to use which is illegal yes but come on grow up. Its very rare for fish worth 2000$ to just sell down here be smashed in a boxed and sent. People normally look first or request pictures, anyways imma stop posting here, everyones going to look at it different, this thread just wasn't required.

Hey Russ. I answered you over at APF but here it is again in case you don't visit back over there. As Miguel said, it is dishonest and illegal to use anyones images without license or permission. Unless the image comes with permission or at least a Creative Commons License, it is not free to use regardless of carrying a watermark or not. Being placed on the internet does not make the image free for all and images are automatically copyright the original author. In most cases you can simply ask for the image to be removed. Sites like Facebook have a system that enables you to have images removed. See LINK

If having the image removed fails, you always have the option to pursue it further by sending them the bill for such use, especially in cases where the image is used for any commercial gains. Most will pay as they know they don't have a leg to stand on and do not want the added legal cost should it go further. For those hard cases you may need to find yourself a local solicitor that can work in conjunction with an International Debt Collection agency. Most international Debt Collection agencies wont take on jobs less than $500 of value but obviously at this stage with a solicitor involved, the cost will be well above this. It all comes down to how far you are willing to go. Always take screenshots of all abuses and keep all documentation of communication with sites concerned. With this proof, it is not a case of being wrong or right when involving a solicitor. Best bet though is to use a watermark like I do now that covers the subject. It will reduce your problem considerably. ;)

Look I think your taking this a little too personal. Weather you know him or don't know him like you stated its illegal to use photos off of google to sell anything and that's the main focus. Go on tangledupincichlids.com Jeff Rapps takes all his own pics weather they are requested or not. 9 out of 10 his fish sell them selves without pics of each individual fish or species cause his stock list are just species names ,sizes ,and prices. if I'm spending the $2000 for a fish I want to see that fish in the ad pics not someone else's fish cause you know the funny thing about google is some fish species are so confusing even with the right search you could end up with the wrong fish. As a business in whole that's a bit shady.
